Responsibilities:Position Summary:
The Skin, Wound & Ostomy Consultant Nurse, functions as the clinical expert, actively involved in clinical practice issues for the UC Irvine Healthcare. Incumbent is responsible for the quality of nursing practice and standards of care provided to patients with wounds and those at risk for pressure ulcer development. Functions as a role model to assist and educate the nursing staff providing the day to day care; risk assessments, potential for healing, and wound care product selection. Assists the manager in leading, planning, controlling and evaluating nursing practices and operations as it relates to skin, wounds, and ostomy. Incorporates the psychomotor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient & family, using clinical knowledge of patient assessment, planning, intervention and evaluation.

Required Qualifications:
- Working knowledge of Joint Commission and other regulatory requirements present in an acute care setting
- Strong customer service orientation as well as written and oral communication skills
- Must possess CWON, CWOCN or WOCN certifications
- Must be able to demonstrate leadership skills by a minimum of four points in leadership roles/responsibilities within the last three years, which may be obtained through the following: Leadership of a project team with effective project outcome and implementation; Advanced degree (MSN) with a focus in leadership; Relief PCC; Qualified Preceptor; Leadership of a Practice Council or in a professional organization; House Supervisor; Membership in a professional development program, Quality Councils and/or PI Teams; Skin Prevalence Nurse; Teaching a class/skills lab or acting as a Clinical instructor; and/or success as an EPIC Superuser. - Complete understanding of acuity levels for specific patient populations
- Basic computer literacy and proficiency with MS Word and MS Outlook
- At least 4 years nursing experience
- All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing
- Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays
- Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a constantly changing environment
- Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload
Preferred Qualifications:
- Specialty nursing certification relating to the patient population
Licenses and Certifications:
- RN
- BLS
- CWOCN
- ACLS
