Clinical Psychologist – Veterans and Active-Duty Service Members – Clinical Faculty
RUSH University Medical Center
Chicago, IL
Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Clinical Psychologist. The Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences is recruiting a clinical psychologist for the Road Home Program: The National Center of Excellence for Veterans and Their Families at Rush (RHP). RHP is part of the Warrior Care Network, serving as its Midwest regional center focusing on the treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) through an innovative 2-week Intensive Outpatient Program for survivors of combat and military sexual trauma (MST). Additionally, RHP provides individualized care on an outpatient basis to veterans and their loved ones to help heal the invisible wounds of war.
The successful candidate will be an integral part of RHP’s clinical program and will treat veterans and active-duty service members, as well as eligible families and children (depending on interests and background). Most of the psychologist’s clinical time will consist of delivering individual psychotherapy in the context of an intensive outpatient program for PTSD. Psychologists will engage in individual, couples, and group psychotherapy, as well as some diagnostic assessment. Psychologists may be expected to supervise trainees, teach medical students and residents, and engage in research and program development. Psychologists will receive an academic appointment through Rush Medical College, so psychologists will be expected to approach their work through a scientist-practitioner perspective. The ideal candidate for this position will have clinical experience with trauma, and the evidence-based treatment of PTSD, particularly Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). Qualified candidates must have a doctoral degree (PhD/PsyD) in clinical or counseling psychology with an APA-approved internship as well as a one-year psychology post-doctoral fellowship. Qualified candidates must be either licensed or license-eligible in the state of Illinois. Candidates that have previous clinical experience with active-duty service members or veterans particularly well-suited. Moreover, RHP serves a broad array of active duty military personnel and veterans with ethnic or minority identities, LGBTQ+ identity, and/or low socioeconomic status. So, demonstrated clinical experience with one or more of these factors is desired. RHP strives to hire clinical staff who reflect the diversity of the population we have the honor to serve.
