Responsibilities

Assure the appropriate selection, dosing, administering, and dispensing of medication orders in specialized areas, such as nuclear medicine, oncology, and cardiology. Serve as a subject matter expert in pharmacy discipline and provide guidance across pharmacies and to clinical leadership.

• Review and assess medication orders to identify, prevent and resolve potential and actual drug-related problems.
• Recommend formulary alternatives when appropriate.
• Compound and dispense medications for accurate delivery to patients.
• Provide drug information and education to medical staff and patients.
• Communicate with physicians and other clinicians as necessary to facilitate care.
• Oversee technical personnel who assist in the preparation, maintenance, and dispensing of medications and supplies.
• Assist with academic functions such as serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students.
• May float to provide coverage of pharmacy needs.
• Provide patient counseling when required.

Requirements

Licensure / Certification / Registration:

• Pharmacist credentialed from the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation obtained prior to hire date or job transfer date required.

Education:

• Bachelor's or advanced degree in Pharmacy required.

Additional Preferences

• This position specializes in internal medicine. PGY2 completion in internal medicine, PGY1 completion with previous internal medicine work experience, or solid internal medicine pharmacist work experience.
• This position will assist with staffing in central pharmacy if necessary for the needs of the department.
