About the Job
As the Clinic Leadyou'll assist the Practice Administrator in overseeing the day-to-day operational functions for the clinic, ensuring that office policies, procedures, and plans are executed in a smooth and expeditious manner. You'll provide leadership, guidance, and expertise to all staff members as well as effectively communicating departmental activities to the team. Lead Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for clearly and effectively communicating with a diverse patient base. They are responsible for comforting patients while performing necessary diagnostic tests and measurements that instills patient confidence in their treatment.

WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON:
- Establish consistency among all ophthalmology Technicians in regard to daily operational issues that relate to policies and regulations and patient care.
- Coordinates the orientation process through an active involvement with the Practice Manager and trains throughout the patient care cycle/visit.
- Provides ongoing education based on individual clinical needs, staff requests, and physician requests.
- Assists staff with education on new equipment, products, policies, and procedures and handling clinical emergencies.
- Facilitates support and provides required education by identifying and communicating relevant in-services.
- Fosters growth of individual staff members through mentoring and support of BSM On-line Training and/or JCAHPO certification.
- Provides leadership in management meetings and other committees as assigned.
- Collaborates with the Practice Manager to foster practice growth and develop plans related to clinical practice.
- Acts as a resource to the clinical team leader and team coordinators with annual skills assessment and competencies.
- Performs all the duties of an ophthalmic assistant.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, and SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:
- Possess at least one year of experience in a clinical setting
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Ability to work as a team member as well as independently
- Well-organized with attention to detail and the ability to multi-task
- Strong leadership and critical thinking/problem-solving skills
- Performs other duties as assigned.
WHAT WILL MAKE YOU AWESOME:
- Ability to review patient charts to ensure completeness and accuracy of information.
- Ability to perform any testing required by the type of exam scheduled.
- Ability to multi-task and perform most clinical positions such as scribing while the physician examines patient and entering data into electronic medical records,
- Ability to oversee patient flow and make changes as necessary.
- Can take an ocular and systemic history and accurately record visual acuity. Is able to perform lensometry, refractometry, applanation tonometry, basic muscle balance testing, assess pupils, assess the anterior chamber, confrontation visual fields and gross external exam.
- Administer topical ophthalmic or oral medications under the direction of the physician.
- Ability to assist consistently with in-office procedures ensuring proper informed consent is obtained, set up, and cleaned up from procedures.
- Ability to perform and train others to provide advanced ophthalmic procedures.
WHAT YOU KNOW:
To be successful in this role you will have the following experience or knowledge:
- High school diploma or equivalent, bachelor's degree highly preferred.
- Previous ophthalmology, healthcare, or customer service work experience required.
