The Peer Support Specialist on the Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) team serves as the lead advocate and mentor for the ACT team and provides a member's perspective to the team.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Work as a member of the ACT team providing 24/7 services to members with the most needs
- Ensure that each individual client's point of view and preferences are recognized, understood, respected and integrated into treatment, rehabilitation, and community self-help activities.
- Assist peers in identifying, choosing, obtaining, and maintaining wellness and healthy lifestyle related goals
- Act as a teacher and role model of behavior health recovery and assist with the development of effective communication with other providers
- Offer hope of recovery from mental illness and/or substance abuse disorders by sharing own recovery stories and teaching individuals how to tell their own stories effectively
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum of one year recent work experience with persons with serious mental illness; experience working with challenging/difficult populations preferred
- Has been personally diagnosed with a severe and persistent mental illness
- Has met all requirements of the Appalachian Consulting Group Peer Support Training Model, or is able to meet these requirements within the first six months following date of hire
- Knowledge of the ACT model and previous ACT experience is preferred
- Valid driver's license with a driving record that will allow insurability, ability to travel generally within a 50 mile service model radius
