Job Responsibilities/Duties
Washington River Protection Solutions (WRPS) manages one of the most challenging radioactive waste cleanup projects in the country. Our focus is reducing the environmental risk posed by 56 million gallons of radioactive and chemical waste stored in 177 underground tanks on the Hanford Site located in Richland, WA. Join us today and be a part of history!
Are you passionate about environmental protection and making a real impact? Do you enjoy working with complex data? Join the Closure and Interim Measures (C&IM) team, where you'll play a crucial role in closing tank farm facilities and safeguarding public health and the environment.
The C&IM group focuses on the field characterization, regulatory documentation, and technical analysis necessary for tank farm closure. Our work supports the Tank Farm Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) Corrective Action Program, involving field data collection, lab analyses, data quality assessment, fate and transport modeling, and risk assessments to address contamination issues from past tank leaks and releases. Additionally, as part of interim measures, C&IM takes on initial response actions to reduce the impacts of tank leaks on the environment through the design of mitigation measures such as interim surface barriers. The C&IM team includes a diverse group of scientists, engineers, numerical modeling professionals and data visualization specialists.
On our team, you will use your analytical skills to help turn complex environmental characterization data into useful information to solve radiological site regulatory closure challenges. You will work closely with the C&IM team to understand their needs, and then dig into the data to find the pieces of their information puzzle. You will work with and learn from your teammates as you develop algorithms, recognize data trends, and draw conclusions.
Support C&IM integrated teams as an individual contributor on the following activities:
* Evaluation of environmental characterization data to determine the nature and extent of soil contamination and development of data quality objectives and work plans to characterize soils in tank farms.
* Development and setup of data sets from various field characterization and analytical sources for efficient use by C&IM scientists including data cleaning (e.g., formatting, numerical/decimal precision, etc.) and data editing (e.g., detecting and removal of poor quality or substandard data).
* Analysis of data, extracting and processing information to find patterns and trends, using technology to analyze data, that can be used to support technical decision making, reporting and within predictive models.
* Data mining to highlight trends and production of data visualizations for reporting and presentation.
* Proposing strategies and solutions based on the information you derived from a data set, using ensemble modeling to combine models, automating processes to collect data, discovering valuable data sources, and using data visualization techniques to present information.
* Prepare presentation materials (e.g. PowerPoint, memorandums, white papers, etc.) to communicate project status of technical presentations.
* Management of C&IM related data sets, providing regulated access to personnel, establishing access and usage protocols.
