Microsoft's Cloud Supply Chain & Provisioning (CSCP) business unit is responsible for key aspects of the cloud supply chain, from planning and execution to capacity provisioning, decommissioning and dispositioning of datacenter assets worldwide. CSCP also has responsibility for managing and executing the cloud sustainability strategy, ensuring that the cloud supply chain is continually optimized to support Microsoft's environmental goals for a sustainable future. ?
As Microsoft scales to become the global leader in cloud deployments and services, we will embed sustainability across the product lifecycle by deeply understanding the sustainability impact of our supply chain and cloud hardware underpinning this growth. With a science and data centric approach we want to lead the industry, leveraging a multitude of data sources and information to successfully deploy supplier sustainability engagement initiatives and enable supply chain transformations.
We're looking for an experienced Cloud Supply Chain Sustainability Impact Manager to join our team. This role will play a critical role in this transformation, helping evolve and implement our sustainability impact assessment strategy, particularly as part of our Design for Sustainability program. This role will drive life cycle assessment work across our cloud IT infrastructure, identify opportunities for interventions to drive carbon reduction and increase circularity, collaborate across teams to harmonize sustainability impact assessment methodologies and calculations. The role will work closely with data scientists and engineers to manage and solve complex challenges at the intersection of sustainability, leading edge technology development, within a world class supply chain organization.
**Responsibilities**
+ Develop and manage initiatives to assess the sustainability impact of Microsoft's cloud IT infrastructure, including conducting Life Cycle Assessments and other product impact evaluations such as product circularity
+ Build tradeoff & what-if analysis models assessing sustainability impacts of hardware design proposals
+ Support engineering efforts to build a scalable solution for sustainability impacts assessment across the cloud business, including providing recommendations and insights on tool development and procurement to enable more sustainable designs and decisions
+ Bring life cycle & hardware expertise to teams of data scientist and engineers, providing insights around complex environmental challenges and tradeoffs related to carbon accounting, embodied emissions, circularity, and other sustainability related impacts.
+ Advocate and engage hardware engineering teams to drive product design changes that contribute to corporate sustainability strategy and goals
+ Support in the creation of a framework for measuring sustainability impact of hardware design, material and supplier selection
+ Collaborate with sourcing and supply chain teams to work on supplier interventions programs reducing carbon emissions & waste
+ Contribute to cross-company methodology development and collaboration among peers across organizations like CO+I, Devices and the CELA Corporate sustainability team
**Qualifications**
**Required Qualifications**
+ Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 4+ years related experience (e.g., statistics predictive analytics, research)
+ OR Master's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 3+ years related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
+ OR Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field AND 1+ year(s) related experience (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, research)
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ Demonstrated program management on environmental indicators and impacts, particularly with respect to carbon, water, energy.
+ Experience with material science and flows, from sourcing to manufacturing to end-of-life recycling
+ Demonstrated experience evaluating environmental impacts of novel materials and technologies using limited and/or imperfect data, including quantification of uncertainties.
+ Experience with life cycle assessment methods, modeling approaches, data, and applications like GaBi, SimaPro, or equivalent
+ Understanding of the ICT sector, cloud hardware and the cloud supply chain
**Other Requirements:**
Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings: Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
**Preferred Qualifications**
+ Experience developing parameterized process-based models for engineering and/or manufacturing processes; knowledge of electronic component production (semiconductors, printed circuit boards, etc.), raw material production (aluminum, steel, plastics, etc.), mechanical part production (machining, stamping, injection molding, etc.) and/or industrial engineering is preferred
+ Demonstrable program management skills, including ability to direct multiple programs
+ Strong technical and analytical experience in the context of supply chains and sustainability
+ Strong understanding of circular economy models, and an established network of sustainability practitioners and institutions
+ Ability to work independently when required, and as part of a team
+ Proven ability to write white papers, and detailed process documentation
+ Strong organization and communication skills
+ Ability to think strategically beyond day-to-day execution
Applied Sciences IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $117,200 - $229,200 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $153,600 - $250,200 per year.
