Job Summary:
Under the direction of the administrator and general supervision of the NATP RN/PD. Training programs shall provide 60 hours of theory/classroom training as specified in the modules and hours in 22 CCR 71835(n) and HSC 1337.1 - 1337.3. In addition to the required minimum of 60 hours of theory/classroom training, the certification program shall also consist of 100 hours of supervised and on-the-job clinical training practice. (HSC 1337.3(c)(2)(B)). The 100 hours of supervised clinical training shall be conducted between the hours of 6:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m. (22 CCR 71835(g))
The instructor will follow the California Department of Public Health approved curriculum: Nurse Assistant Training Assessment Program (NATAP), developed by the California Community College Chancellors Office and adopted by Prosperity Training Center. The instructor is responsible to train non-certified individuals in basic nursing tasks consisting of a minimum of 60 hours of theory/classroom training on basic nursing skills, patient safety and rights, the social and psychological problems of patients, and elder abuse recognition and reporting. (HSC 1337.3(c)(2)(A)) additionally, the curriculum shall include within the 60 hours of theory/classroom training, a minimum of 6 hours of instruction on preventing, recognizing, and reporting instances of abuse utilizing those courses developed pursuant to Section 138.23 of the Penal Code, and a minimum of 1 hour of instruction on preventing, recognizing, and reporting residents' rights violations. (HSC 1337.1 (e)(1))
Qualifications:
Director of Staff Development or Instructor Requirements (Title 42 Code of Federal Regulations 483.152, California Health & Safety Code 1337.15, and California Code of Regulations, Title 22, 71809, 71821, 71829, and 75011)
· Resume depicting verifiable work experience. Must include work experience in month/year to month/year format, name and address of each employer, job duties and contact telephone number for Human Resources or administrator or supervisor.
· Active RN or LVN license in California.
· Two (2) years of nursing experience (RN, LVN).
· One (1) of the two years must be as a licensed nurse providing care and services to chronically ill or elderly patients in an acute care hospital, skilled nursing facility, intermediate care facility, home care, hospice care or other long-term care setting.
AND
· One (1) year of experience planning, implementing, and evaluating education programs in nursing.
OR
· Twenty-four (24) hours of continuing education in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in nursing (Director of Staff Development Certificate or Transcript) completed within six (6) months of employment and prior to teaching a certification program. Course must be approved by the Board of Registered Nursing or administered by an accredited educational institute.
Duties and Responsibilities:
· Prepare lesson plans to correlate with course outline
· Understand and apply teaching strategics when implementing lesson plans
· Create and maintain a safe environment conducive to learning within the classroom and clinical lab.
· Maintain discipline in the classroom and clinical settings.
· Knowledge of and adherence to training site standards.
· Participate in staff in-services and advisory meetings.
· Provide student assessments, as necessary.
· Assure students have met all requirements prior to clinical placement.
· Report verbally and in writing incidents or accidents to the NATP Administrator, RN/PD, and facility Administration.
· Maintain accurate records, complete all documentation using CDPH approved forms, retain all student files for a period of 4 years (22 CCR 71835(k)(1))
· Complete daily attendance, approve/deny absences, and assign make up dates/time, and topics missed when absent.
· Perform related duties such as, participating in special activities, and providing remedial assistance
· Provide supervised clinical training in a CDPH approved nursing facility. Student to Instructor ratio shall not exceed 15:1 in the clinical setting. (22 CCR 71828(b)(4))
