BASIC FUNCTION: Assists department supervisor in the daily operation of the Villa’s Personal Services Unit ensuring the health and comfort of the Residents. Adheres to all Federal, State, and local regulations and corporate and facility Policies and Procedures. Assists staff in providing Resident care, which may include meal service, light housekeeping, toileting, personal hygiene and medication assistance
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists charge nurse/supervisor in maintaining high levels of employee morale, motivation, internal cooperation and staff contact with Residents. Ensures that all Residents are served in a courteous, efficient and effective manner. Ensures that Resident needs and desires are met quickly and appropriately.
- Follows established performance standards and duties according to nursing policies and procedures. Assists in the administration of non-nursing and routine aspects of Resident’s living.
- Identifies special Resident problems and reports them immediately to nurse/ supervisor.
- Reports all unusual problems, incidents or changes in Resident’s condition to nurse/supervisor. Documents incidents and/or unusual situations according to established departmental procedures.
- Identifies safety hazards and emergency situations. Initiates corrective action as appropriate and reports situation to charge person/supervisor.
- Takes vital signs and assists Residents with medications as ordered by physician and under supervision of licensed nurse.
- Documents the care and treatment provided to the Resident and the Resident’s response to care provided, including medication charting.
- Ensures care to all Residents assigned. Assists Residents to dining room as needed, or makes meals available to Resident’s room. Provides Residents toileting opportunities. Assists with Resident baths, showers, or bed baths as needed. Observes infection control procedures at all times.
- Assumes responsibility for adhering to procedures or the use and control of equipment and supplies within the unit.
- Complies with all Federal, State, and local regulations.
- Follows all procedures for admission, discharge, and transfer of Residents.
- Understands and works well within a Resident centered environment and acts as a role model for compassion and understanding towards the Resident to all staff, guests and families.
- Conforms to all Resident Rights regulations, promptly reports any observations or suspicions of Resident abuse or neglect to supervisor or other person of authority.
- Works cooperatively with Residents, supervisors, co-workers, physicians, families, consultant personnel and ancillary service providers
- Work closely with the Nursing Supervisor and Dietitian to address problems/concerns.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: If a CNA - Current California CNA certification. Current First Aid and CPR cards. Successful completion of Medication Assistance Training. Successful completion of required Dementia Training.
Neat in appearance with good grooming habits. Must be able to be tactful and courteous at all times with both Residents and employees. Must be able to respond to Resident’s needs and expectations. Able to read, write, understand, and speak the English language. Must be computer literate sufficient to perform all tasks required of the Electronic Medical Records (EMR) System.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Completion of a formal CNA training program. Current Certified Nursing Assistant in the state of California, First Aid, and CPR cards. Successful completion of Medication Assistance Training in person with the American Heart Association.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Frequently must be able to push and pull objects more than 50 pounds and be able to lift and carry objects in excess of 50 pounds. Consistently able to perform simple manipulative skills such as standing and walking and frequently more moderate skills such as positioning Residents. Must frequently be able to walk, stand, stoop, squat, and bend. Less frequently, must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time, remain in uncomfortable positions for extended periods, bend over beds, reach above shoulders and kneel. Must be able to identify objects and persons at a distance of 20 feet, read fine print and be able to speak clearly and make self-understood.
MENTAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to concentrate of fine detail where there may be constant interruption. Frequently must attend to task and function for 10 or 20 minutes at a time and less frequently for periods more than 60 minutes. The ability to understand and relate to theories behind several related concepts is essential. Consistently will need to remember tasks and assignments given at the beginning of a period of time that may extend several days. Frequently, this may be for periods over longer periods of time.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Frequently may be exposed to blood, body tissue or fluids. Occasionally there may be exposure to hazardous waste, chemicals, dusts, loud or unpleasant noises, high humidity and possibly mechanical hazards.
