Summary
The CNC Machinist works with the CNC department, under the supervision of the CNC Coordinator and Lead Programmer, to carry out required jobs on various CNC machines and equipment. These machines include both 3 and 5 axis, as well as newly acquired machines HAAS UMC-1000 & HAAS ST-45L. The CNC Machinist will setup, operate, and assist with maintenance of the machines. They make critical contributions to the projects at CET and ensure that they meet client expectations.
Essential Functions

- Safely set-up and operate multiple CNC machines with minimal assistance.
- Operation of large format 3 and 5 AXIS, HAAS UMC-1000 & HAAS ST-45L
- Ability to simultaneously operate more than one CNC machine at a time.
- Read and adhere to all written processes
- Study daily work instruction, sketches, drawings, blueprints and manuals to determine dimensions and tolerances accurately.
- Inspect product utilizing visual and hand inspection equipment (microscopes, vernier calipers, micrometers, drop indicators, profilometer, etc.).
- Inspect, change, and make offsets to cutting tooling on CNC equipment.
- Maintain a clean and safe workspace
- Perform daily preventative maintenance on equipment
- Adhere to and implement quality management system in accordance with ISO Quality standards
Supervisory Responsibility
This position does not have supervisory responsibility, however, may be tasked with assisting in specific training efforts.
Work Environment
This position requires time spent on the shop floor and exposure to shop elements including noise, moving parts, dust, and fumes. This role may require use of standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets. The CNC Machinist must have no known allergy to epoxy agents and have the ability to become certified to wear a respirator.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to work in noisy and dust filled spaces, climb on and around large structures, lift heavy materials, sit, or stand for extended periods of time.
Position Type & Expected Work Hours
This is a full-time hourly position, Monday through Friday, 40 hours per week. The second shift works 3 p.m.-11:30p.m. This position may require longer hours and weekend work.
Required Education and Experience
- 6+ years of machine shop experience- manual mills and lathes along with CNC machines
- Vocational trades school, high school diploma or equivalent (formal trades or apprenticeship programs preferred)
- Strong problem-solving skills
- Self-starter and motivated to perform in a fast-paced environment
- Detail oriented and highly organized.
- Knowledge of machines and tools.
- Solid computer skills.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
Preferred Education & Experience
- Knowledge and experience in composite production and manufacturing processes and techniques.
- Knowledge of composite raw materials.
- Certificate in machine shop technology or machine tool technology/machinist.
- Experience in mechanical assembly
- Strong analytical, communication, and computer skills.
- Understanding of mathematics.
