Job Title: CNC Machinist (Okuma Lathes)
Department: Operations
Reports to: General Manager
SUMMARY:
Produces machined parts, operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, writes and reads programs and blueprints, maintains and improves quality and safety standards; Keeps and creates records; maintains equipment and supplies.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
·Operate machines in accordance with process sheets and any other required paperwork (i.e. drawings, specifications, etc.).
·Capability to do setups, programs and operate Okuma lathe machines.
·Create, edit and/or retrieve CNC programs from system files and execute.
·Use manufacturing paperwork (travelers, blueprints, sketches, etc.) to: manufacture product that meets quality requirements. Inspect and verify work prior to submitting for inspection. If non-conforming, process via non-conforming material procedures.
·Meet time and schedule standards for assigned work.
·Correctly process work via required paperwork and MRP system.
·Advise supervision of issues that arise.
·Perform non-CNC tasks when necessary: non-CNC equipment operation, hand-work operations, inspections, saw-cut operations, etc.
·Plans machining by studying work orders, blueprints, engineering plans, materials, specifications, orthographic drawings, reference planes, locations of surfaces, and machining parameters; interpreting geometric dimensions and tolerances (GD&T).
·Able to do offset, compensations, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry and trigonometry; proving part programs.
·Loads feed mechanism by lifting stock into position.
·Maintains specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes.
·Maintains continuity among work shifts by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs.
·Documents actions by completing production and quality logs.
·Accomplishes organization goals by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
High school diploma or GED preferred and one two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL REQUIREMENT:
·Ability to read & understand blueprints and technical documents commensurate with machine operation.
·Experience with CAD/CAM software such as Mastercam, Autodesk, Esprit, etc.
·Experience with Okuma lathe models.
·Experience with Fanuc control panels.
·A genuine belief in continuous improvement and disciplined processes and a willingness to analyze, challenge and change processes, if needed, to create a more efficient environment and culture.
·Organizational and time management skills.
·Self starter with ability to multi-task and prioritize work day/projects independently.
·Firm understanding of CNC programs including formatting and editing.
·Ability to use various inspection gages.
·Confidence to approach supervisor with suggestions to changes to processes, if needed, to create a more efficient environment and culture.
·Basic computer knowledge.
·Conceptual skills, Process improvement, Verbal communication, Functional and Technical skills includes; Blueprints and technical drawings, Controls and Instrumentation, Coordination, Attention to detail and Judgment.
