Job Summary
Successful manufacturing company seeking a CNC Mazak Lathe Machinist to join our team! This is a full time 1st shift position Monday - Friday 7am-3pm.. The ideal candidate will be capable of programming, set up and operating CNC Mazak lathes for various types of large and or small parts. As a CNC Lathe Programmer at Wagstaff, you will play a critical role in programming CNC Lathes, managing data, and optimizing our manufacturing processes. We're looking for a candidate who is not just adept at handling technical challenges but is also a forward-thinker, able to leverage modern technologies to enhance efficiency and quality.
As a Mazak CNC Lathe Machinist you will:
- Join an established Machine Shop
- Utilize Mazatrol controllers on Mazak CNC Machines
- Setup, program and operate CNC Lathes
- Review job specifications, drawings and customer requirements
- Create and test unique programs
- Additionally, make modifications to existing programs
- Setup and operate machines
- Conduct quality checks on completed work product
- Troubleshoot quality issues as they arise
- Initiate corrective action as necessary
- Uphold safety, compliance and quality standards
- Ensure your area remains neat and orderly
- Perform other duties as assigned
- CNC Lathe Machinist will set-up and operate CNC Mazak lathes to make precision parts using best and safe practices
- Set-up and use, modify, if necessary, required fixtures, cutting tools and work instructions to machine parts to specification
- Calculate the appropriate feeds and speeds for cutting operations required to manufacture parts to prints
- Identify and troubleshoot any problems with machined parts and assist other less skilled employees to resolve problems
- Develop a program and prove it out on the machine to get a finished part
- Evaluate tool wear and establish tool change frequency
- Perform fixture maintenance and tool replacement edits
- Perform all CNC machining processes including editing G&M codes and offsets (CNC only)
- Develop machining process instructions, tool sheets, and/or CNC machining programs as necessary and applicable to the specific machine
- Provide assistance to other departments, primarily Manufacturing Engineering, with the development of job quotes, machining processes, fixtures, and tooling
- Cross train and mentor co-workers to share skills and knowledge
- Identify and develop product/process improvements and then lead implementation of these improvements
- Operate machines using best and safe practices
- Must produce parts within required tolerances
- Willingness to cross train on other machines as required
- Housekeeping/maintenance of work area and machinery
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship
- Minimum of ten (10) years CNC Lathe experience
- Preferred experience with Mazak 5-axis Integrex
- May substitute two (2) years of experience for Associate of Arts degree in Machining Technology
- May substitute one year experience for accredited trade or vocational machining certificate
- Demonstrated ability, understanding, and experience to guide raw materials through all available processes, and end with a finished product that conforms to all specified requirements
- Understand the machining properties of multiple types of materials such as steel, cast iron, aluminum, brass, stainless steel and composites
- Familiar with operation and maintenance of machines and tooling
- Ability to machine parts to precise specifications
- Ability to use the capability of the CNC control to develop CNC machining programs (CNC only)
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings for proper applications of tolerances, fit, and process control
- Proper use of precision measuring instruments including calipers, machinist protractors, radius/thread gauges and micrometers
- In-depth knowledge of Wagstaff product lines and processes
- Demonstrated ability to train and mentor other employees
- Experience utilizing MRP systems for accurate job reporting and assignment of jobs
Working Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be exposed to moving mechanical parts, machinery and equipment, and vibration. The employee may be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. While performing some job duties, there is a risk of electrical shock and other risks associated with a manufacturing environment.
Job duties may require work in high, precarious places, work in outside weather conditions, and exposure to extreme temperatures in some cases. The noise level in the working environment is often loud. Because of this environment and associated risks, use of job appropriate personal protective equipment and clothing is required.
