Job Title: CNC Programmer
Reporting To: CNC Manager
The CNC Programmer is responsible to analyze job orders, drawings, and blueprints to perform all the necessary calculations and programming to create products per customer specifications.
The CNC Programmer is expected to:
- Program, test, run and revise machine programming to meet customer specifications.
- Set up machine with correct tooling to build product precisely and efficiently
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
CNC Programming 50%
- Writes programs from blueprints and/or solid models for the CNC machines
- Loads electronic files onto the machine.
- Studies and interprets drawings, manuals, specifications or sample parts to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work pieces, sequence of operations, and set-up requirements to maximize efficiencies.
- Creates set-up sheets based on tooling selection criteria.
- Monitors and verifies the accuracy of each job’s initial set-up and outcome.
- Responsible for the machine performance and product outcome of assigned projects.
- Revises programs and documents based on engineering changes.
- Maintains library of programs.
- Sets up and operates machine on a trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data.
- Performs first piece inspection once setup is completed. Gives first piece to Quality Inspector and waits for Quality approval to continue.
Quality Control 30%
- Monitors machine operations to detect out of tolerance machining
- Takes corrective action to bring units into specification. Red tags units that are out of specification (OOS), reports OOS to quality personnel and supervisor.
- Coordinates with Quality department to ensure parts comply with specifications.
- Communicates with supervisor, engineers, quality and other shop personnel for assignments and to resolve machine or quality issues.
- Demonstrates ability to streamline processes to increase productivity and quality; production and prototype jobs are setup consistently, timely and accurately.
Process Management 20%
- Works for continuous process improvements and machine time reductions reporting program changes to Supervisor and /or Manufacturing Engineer.
- Keeps CNC operators abreast of daily machine performance and project updates.
- Assists in solving plant operating problems and/or cost reductions projects.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associate's degree or equivalent from two-year college or technical school in computer numerically controlled programming, machine tool programing, or a related field is required
- 4-7 years of CNC programming experience is required. CNC programming experience in a manufacturing or production environment strongly preferred.
- Proficient in writing programs from blueprints and/or solid models for the CNC swiss turning machines
- 1-3 years of CAM programming experience is required.
- Must be able to read GD&T and G-code
- Must be familiar with various types of CNC equipment, 5-axis, Live tool lathe etc.
- Citizen CNC and PartMaker proficiency is strongly preferred.
- Mechanical aptitude required.
- Demonstrated knowledge with set-up, operation and programming of machines.
- Detailed knowledge reading blueprints and geometric tolerances and dimensions.
- Detailed knowledge of precision measuring equipment and the application of such instruments – including but not limited to calipers, ID / OD micrometers, depth gauges, indicators.
- General knowledge and understanding of ISO 13485 and FDA 21CFR820
