Job Summary
This role will be focused on Fralock's structural ceramics manufacturing business. This temporary position will support the structural ceramics team start up and qualify processes and equipment related to near net shape ceramic components at our manufacturing facility in Poway California. The Process Engineer will collaborate and support key projects, focusing on evaluating process capability and stability for equipment relocated from Rocklin California. This key hire will report to the Executive Director of Structural Ceramic Products while working and collaborating closely with Engineering, Quality, and Operations Managers to ensure the overall success of this growing segment of business at Fralock.
Key Responsibilities
- Work with design Engineers to start up and verify manufacturing processes and tooling performance on the factory floor.
- Be the contact point and support in timely manner manufacturing to analyze root cause, propose and implement corrective actions (immediate, and longer term) and document any manufacturing out of specifications problem reported by manufacturing operation (operator, supervisors, managers)
- Evaluate manufacturing process capability, methods, tooling, and CNC programs, applying Lean and Six Sigma principles.
- Manage selected Rocklin process transfer to Poway manufacturing, including process description, verification of process limits and specifications, editing and adjusting work instructions as needed.
- Ability to realize and implement Design of Experiments to improve process capabilities.
- Responsible for assisting the Poway team troubleshooting existing manufacturing processes.
- Lead realization of work instructions and training for key selected processes.
- Work within QA/QC procedures with an ability to understand their scope and application, as well as waiver documentation and procedures.
Required Skills
- At least 3 months experience in ceramic and/or glass component manufacturing
- Strong computer skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to analyze data and problem solve
- Learn to read and interpret engineering drawings
- Familularity with navigating ERP and QMS systems to locate data
Preferred Skills
- Self motivated, results and action oriented, and a strong team player
- A hands on aptitude
- Process Engineering knowledge
- Ceramic powder handling and process in knowledge
Experience Requirements
- Limited experience in one or more related engineering areas: ceramics, manufacturing, sintering, industrial, production, or quality
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering preferred or an Engineering related discipline.
