In this role, you will be part of a multidisciplinary engineering team developing and sustaining medical diagnostic instrumentation and consumables including mechanical design and manufacturing automation.
You will be expected to prototype and test various mechanical concepts to provide rapid feedback and direction to the broader development team to drive fast and decisive decisions. Clear communication, the ability to collaborate with others, and being a self-starter are a must.
Throughout the 6 months, you'll have the opportunity to participate in the following:
+ Heat transfer and thermal analysis
+ Develop basic structural analysis models of mechanical assemblies
+ Data acquisition and sensor interfacing
+ Design and build of manufacturing Fixtures
+ Technical report writing
+ Communicate and collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary team members
+ Design and analysis of microfluidic systems
We're looking for bright, inquisitive problem solvers who strive to make a difference. Key qualifications include the following:
+ Able to work full-time (40 hours per week) from July 2025 to December 2025
+ Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s degree or Master's program and have at least one quarter/semester remaining to complete after the Co-Op
+ Majoring in Mechanical Engineering or Bioengineering preferred
+ Rising Senior or Graduate student
+ Preferred Cumulative GPA of 3.2/4.0
+ A resourceful problem-solver with the ability to be self-directed
+ Knowledge and familiarity of mechanical design for automation
+ Strong understanding of mechanical engineering product design fundamentals
+ 2+ years of 3D solid modeling design tools experience utilizing SolidWorks and PDM Works
+ Proficient in 3D fabrication (3D printing, machining, sheet metal, etc.)
+ Experience with programming in Python, C#, or similar
+ Electrical breadboarding is a plus
+ Experience using 3D thermal analysis software
+ Experience with structural analysis FEA tools
+ Ability to work onsite at our San Diego, CA campus. Student housing, relocation, and housing stipends are not provided
The hourly pay range for this role is $26 - $35 per hour. Compensation is determined by class standing and operational function.
