Bergmann, an affiliate of Colliers Engineering & Design is currently looking for a Code Compliance Specialist to join our Architecture team.
Bergmann joined Colliers Engineering & Design in late 2021, bringing to the company a team of talented and creative architects and full range of services from preliminary planning and feasibility studies through final design and construction management. We simplify the project process for clients, saving time and effort. This creates collaborative, dynamic and timeless designs. Our in-house, multi-disciplinary team also includes interior design; mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) design; programming, corporate branding, standards integration, workstation specification, facilities and construction management support and energy solutions, as well as LEED certification. Responsibilities:- Provide code compliance reviews and comprehensive comments for NYS projects
- Support in-house code compliance questions from staff
- Assist project teams with completing code compliance checklists and certifications on projects
- Provide 3rd-party construction inspection services for clients
- Assist project teams and clients with existing building evaluations relative to current code compliance and/or upgrades required for new uses and compliance
- Provide quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) reviews for in-house projects
- Assist project teams on Project related production needs, when time allows beyond primary code compliance and QA/QC responsibilities
- Mentor and assist code compliance lead with developing and presenting training sessions for in-house staff
- Assist code compliance lead with updating code sheets and distributing information to staff on code updates
- Work with code compliance lead to develop consistent code compliance review/comments for clients and documents/training for in-house staff
- An accredited architecture or engineering bachelor’s or master’s degree, licensed Registered Architect or Professional Engineer, and current NYS Enforcement Official certification (or equivalent ICC certification) with a minimum of five (5) years of building industry experience are the preferred requirements for this position
- Associates or non-accredited architectural or engineering technology degrees and current NYS Code Enforcement Official certification (or equivalent ICC certification) with a minimum of 8-12 years of building industry experience would be considered equivalent
- Applicants with other technical education and more than 12 years of building industry and code compliance experience with NYS Building Safety Inspector certification and/or other ICC certifications will also be considered. Applicant must be willing to become a certified NYS Enforcement Official within six (6) months of hire date.
- A strong knowledge and interest in building codes and standards, specifically NYS State Uniform and Energy Codes as well as jurisdictions that have adopted I-Codes
Construction safety; additional firm training will be required and providedStrong ability to understand construction drawings and specifications, for code reviews and QA/QC reviews - Construction inspection knowledge
- Technical writing skills
- Professional communication skills with clients and in-house staff and ethical principals
- Time management and planning
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, and Powerpoint applications
- Proficient use of Bluebeam and/or Adobe Acrobat applications for comments is preferred
- Willingness to learn and collaborate, as well as to maintain yearly in-service training required for certification
- Good use of AutoCAD and/or Revit, to support in-house project work
