Position Reports To: Collections Manager
Location: Asheville
Position Purpose
To protect the assets of the credit union by collecting those accounts which have become delinquent and to minimize losses to the credit union and its members.
Essential Functions and Basic Duties
Monitor and collect past due accounts as assigned while following State and Federal collection laws, rules and regulations.
Maintain accurate notes and correspondence of all collection attempts to contact the member.
Providing Customer service regarding collection issues, resolve member discrepancies and short payments.
When appropriate, work out a mutually acceptable payment schedule which would protect the credit union's interest and the credit of the member.
Enlist the efforts of the Collection Manager to accelerate the collection process and recommend remedial collection action when necessary to the Collection Manager.
Refer all bankruptcies to the Collection Manager and follow the regulations as established by law.
Establish and maintain effective and cooperative relationships with staff, auto dealers, insurance companies, attorneys, and recovery agents.
Internal and external customer interface.
Meet established collection goals.
Perform other assigned tasks and duties to support the Collection Department.
Qualifications/Required Skills
Experience in collections is strongly preferred.
Must be dependable; detailed oriented and demonstrate excellent interpersonal, written and oral communication skills.
Ability to make sound decisions, exercise diplomacy, patience and uphold a strong work ethic while protecting the credit union and member relations.
Working knowledge of collection procedures.
Working knowledge of word, excel, outlook and scanner.
Notary Public Commission is preferred, and will be expected within one year of employment.
