COMBINATION INSPECTOR (BUILDING PERMITS & INSPECTIONS) - City of San Angelo Texas

Position will be open until filled.
We are currently seeking: A combination inspector to join our team and inspect structures, installations and systems at residential and commercial buildings and construction sites to assure compliance with applicable state and local regulations and standards and investigate complaints for code violations.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Enforcing zoning requirements such as but not limited to zoning, Planned Developments, conditional uses, and special uses.
- Inspecting electrical and building systems to assure compliance with applicable codes, ordinances and regulations; duties may vary according to job assignment.
- Reviewing plans and specifications to gain familiarity with the projects prior to inspection.
- Noting deficiencies and deviations from plans; referring serious problems and disagreements in interpretation to supervisor.
- Interpreting City ordinances and safety codes and issuing notices of violation; maintaining communications with developers and builders on commercial and residential inspection projects.
- Maintaining and updating inspection records, project documentation and project files.
- Providing customer service; answering questions and concerns related to City ordinances and safety codes and all other requirements.
- Investigating citizen complaints and coordinating effective resolution of conflicts and disagreements; interpreting, applying and explaining City codes and regulations.
- Responding to requests for information; providing technical information to City staff as authorized; providing assistance to the public within scope of authority.
- Regular and timely attendance is required.

Requirements and Skills:
- Interpreting and applying statutes, rules, ordinances, codes and regulations.
- Interpreting building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, and zoning regulations, and comparing them with engineering drawings, plans, maps and specifications.
- Detecting deviations from plans, regulations, and standard construction practices.
- Performing building inspections for compliance with building and safety codes.
- Organizing and managing technical records
- Effective communication, both verbal and written.
- Establishing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with employees, officials, construction professionals, other agencies and the general public.
- Operating a personal computer utilizing standard and specialized software.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND two year's journeyman/foreman-level in experience of general construction; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Licenses or Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Texas Driver's License.
- Applicants with an out-of-state driver license must provide an original certified driving record from the state of driving licensure.
- Licensing in a building trades specialty with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation is required; depending on the needs of the City, incumbent may be required to obtain additional technical certifications; Inspector certifications are preferred.
- Ability to obtain Certified Code Enforcement Officer with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.
Physical Demands / Work Environment:
- Work is performed in a standard office environment, with frequent visits to outdoor construction sites.
