Summary
The Commercial HVAC/R Start Up Tech - Special Projects will report to the Trade/Department Special Projects (Service) Manager and is responsible for Start-Up and installation of HVAC/R equipment and refrigeration piping. The Special Projects team are a division of the Service department working with Owner direct equipment change outs, and special projects; working within the Service and Construction departments as needed. Incumbent must be able to install systems safely with good craftsmanship and within budget.
Essential Duties
- Installation and Start-Up of HVAC/R equipment: Pkg. RTU 1-50 tons, DX split systems 1-50 tons, Mini-Split systems, Light Commercial Refrigeration Racks and Evaporators; hanging and brazing refrigeration piping; condensate piping; piping insulation and low voltage wiring.
- Demonstrate the ability to perform equipment start-ups; Factory start ups as required.
- Ability to properly fill out CES start-up paperwork and submit all required documentation and pictures of work performed.
- Conduct HVAC/R servicing jobs promptly, professionally and efficiently.
- Experience with commissioning, and programming for low/high voltage controls; communicating and building automation systems is a plus.
- Examples: Danfoss, Trenton ESP+, Distech, Master-Bilt, Lennox Prodigy, Daikin, etc.
- As-builts as required.
- Perform related duties as directed by the Trade/Department Manager, Senior Project Manager or Project Manager.
- Demonstrate proper use of safety equipment at all times.
- Ability to manage time and workload effectively.
- Flexibility to work overtime/weekends, as needed.
- Flexibility to work out of town, as needed.
- Travel and overnight stays may be required depending on job locations.
Non-Essential Duties
- Use self-initiative to remain current with industry trends (engage in webinars, virtual conferences, educational reading, etc.)
- Accept and perform other work as assigned
Experience and Education
- Minimum 3 years of related experience in the industry (commercial or residential installation) is required
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

- Ability to work under pressures of time, a non-standard schedule, and ready to communicate customer needs concisely during backlog constraints
- Must not have a fear of heights (Acrophobia)
- Ability to coordinate cranes for hoisting of equipment.
Licenses/Certifications
- Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Certification required
- Valid Florida Driver's License is required
- Incumbent must be insurable at all times by CES insurance carrier
- Factory training or certification on equipment start-up and or commissioning preferred.
