Asplundh Electrical Testing is searching for Commissioning Engineers in Western MA, Upstate NY, and New Jersey.
Since 1981, Asplundh Electrical Testing, LLC (AET) has provided substation commissioning, acceptance testing, and maintenance services to electrical transmission, distribution, and generation clients, as well as large users of electrical power through its corporate headquarters in Foxboro, MA, and regional offices located throughout the country. AET is recognized as an industry leader and one of the largest independent electrical testing companies in the U.S.
Responsibilities:
- Develop isolation, test, and energization plans for utility substation projects. Experience in either Distribution and/ or Transmission (both a plus).
- Ability to read, review, and analyze schematics, engineering drawings, and wiring diagrams. Drawings will need to be updated with field markups for any changes performed.
- Perform technical oversight of customer crew and/or contractors performing the work. Must be capable of leading a substation installation/modification project.
- Lead, coordinate, and execute all commissioning activities for utility substation protection, control, and power circuits, ensuring compliance with AET's and Client's requirements, budgets, and schedules.
- Troubleshoot and analyze problems related to protection and control systems and utility substation equipment, including identifying and resolving application errors, wiring errors, equipment malfunctions, and more.
- Actively participate in project meetings such as kickoff, planning, progress, and lessons learned meetings.
- Prepare detailed reports and documentation on a daily, weekly, and project-completion basis, including progress reports, issue logs, recommendations, test results, and data analysis.
- Ensure that all equipment and systems undergo applicable testing and commissioning activities according to project plans and documents and that test results are recorded, filed, and distributed.
Qualifications:
- Ideal candidates will have 10+ years of experience performing testing and commissioning of utility substations. Extensive experience with testing protection and control schemes is required.
- Strong knowledge of electrical protection systems, including relay communication, and familiarity with AC and DC schematics, wiring and drawings, and interconnection diagrams.
- Previous testing experience using Doble Protection Suite or ProTest ideal.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and manage team members, contractors, and client relationships.
Travel: >80% within assigned region. Some extended, out-of-town travel may be required as needed
