JOB TITLE: Communications Assistant
The district plans to fill this position with an internal candidate. However, all qualified applicants will be given consideration.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree or higher.
- Experience in K12 PR or related field.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Video, graphic design, and social media experience.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work under tight deadlines and with diverse set of colleagues.
REPORTS TO: Coordinator of Public Relations
JOB GOALS:
- Assist in elevating the school system's communication engagement efforts and overall profile/visibility.
- Assist in serving the diverse and growing communication needs of the six-campus school system serving more than 6,000 students in grades PreK-12.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Understand, assist, and uphold rules, regulations, and policies as set forth by the Alabaster City Board of Education.
- Participate in efficient and effective operation of the school system.
- Abide by ethical standards appropriate for public education settings.
- Assist in fostering a culture of communication that engages internal and external audiences.
- Punctual/consistent attendance is required.
- Attend ACS events as required/assigned (some nights/weekends).
- Occasional lifting/moving of communication-related equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Frequent use of web, mobile app, social media, videography, photography, and other technologies.
- Frequent writing to produce news releases, social content, web content, and other written communications.
- Eye for detail and strong proofreading skills.
- Ability to respond positively to changing priorities.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month (240 days) contract.
EVALUATION:
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.
SALARY: Appropriate placement on the current salary schedule.
