Communications Assistant - Alabaster City Schools

JOB TITLE: Communications Assistant

The district plans to fill this position with an internal candidate. However, all qualified applicants will be given consideration.

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree or higher.
2. Experience in K12 PR or related field.
3. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
4. Video, graphic design, and social media experience.
5. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
6. Ability to work under tight deadlines and with diverse set of colleagues.

REPORTS TO:  Coordinator of Public Relations

JOB GOALS:

1. Assist in elevating the school system's communication engagement efforts and overall profile/visibility.
2. Assist in serving the diverse and growing communication needs of the six-campus school system serving more than 6,000 students in grades PreK-12.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Understand, assist, and uphold rules, regulations, and policies as set forth by the Alabaster City Board of Education.
2. Participate in efficient and effective operation of the school system.
3. Abide by ethical standards appropriate for public education settings.
4. Assist in fostering a culture of communication that engages internal and external audiences.
5. Punctual/consistent attendance is required.
6. Attend ACS events as required/assigned (some nights/weekends).
7. Occasional lifting/moving of communication-related equipment up to 50 lbs.
8. Frequent use of web, mobile app, social media, videography, photography, and other technologies.
9. Frequent writing to produce news releases, social content, web content, and other written communications.
10. Eye for detail and strong proofreading skills.
11. Ability to respond positively to changing priorities.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Twelve-month (240 days) contract.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy.

SALARY: Appropriate placement on the current salary schedule.
