About the Job
The National Association of Counties (NACo), representing America’s 3,069 county governments with nearly 40,000 elected officials, 3.6 million county employees, and more than $660 billion in annual community-based investments, seeks a Communications Assistant. Reporting to the digital communications director, this position supports NACo’s communications efforts by managing campaigns, creating digital content and supporting media relations.
Position Responsibilities and Activities:
•Lead the development and deployment of a cross-platform social media strategy aimed at reaching counties and intergovernmental partners and educating the public about county priorities
•Contribute to communications team efforts to enhance other digital communications channels, including NACo.org, email communication, video and podcast production, and other multimedia content
•Provide day-to-day support for NACo’s webinars, guiding webinar strategy and acting as the webinar administrator
•Collaborate with all members of communications team and all departments across NACo to produce cutting-edge digital media materials
•Support photography efforts with some photography responsibilities and management of outside photography vendors
•Manage communications around a calendar of major campaigns, including National County Government Month, Operation Green Light for Veterans, Mental Health Awareness Month, and more
•Support media relations by drafting press releases and developing and maintaining media lists
•Write/edit content for the web and other digital channels
•Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
•1-3 years of experience in digital communications, preferably including managing professional social media channels
•Strong verbal, written, organizational and professional relationship-building skills
•Creativity and flexibility
•Close attention to detail and excellent judgment
•Willingness to try new tasks and learn new skills
•Ability to work in a collaborative environment and provide support to others within the communications team and across NACo
•Comfort with learning back-end management of a website
•Basic Adobe Creative Cloud skills (Photoshop, InDesign)
•Basic photography skills preferred
Working Conditions:
•Hybrid work schedule is available, with minimum requirement of 2 days in the office to collaborate
•Some travel is required
•Salary range: $55,000-62,000 per year
