This position is based in the organization's western regional office, CSG West, located in Sacramento, California and serves Western state legislatures. Through a variety of programs and services offered to legislators and legislative staff, CSG West facilitates regional cooperation, exchange of information and fosters the strengthening of legislative institutions among its 13 member states, Pacific Island governments and international partners. This includes policy forums, sharing of best practices, professional development training, international relations opportunities, publications, and institutional linkages with other regional entities in the West as well as nationally. JOB SUMMARY
The Communications and Development Specialist implements strategies that enhance CSG West's presence across various digital platforms, fosters member engagement, and supports fundraising initiatives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES
Communications
- Develop and implement a social media strategy, create social media posts, engage with community members online and respond to enhance the organization's online presence.
- Oversee and manage all social media platforms, including X, LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram.
- Maintain and update the organization's website, suggesting and implementing improvements to enhance user experience and content relevance.
- Produce and distribute regular event email promotions, ensuring they effectively communicate the organization's activities, achievements, and needs.
- Create and manage other organizational publications, such as event materials, annual reports, and special projects.
- Manage communications assets, including photos, success stories, logos, and other organizational collateral.
- Support in the mailing of marketing materials.
Development
- Identify and research prospects to increase revenues, program, and brand opportunities.
- Manage and improve CRM system to track funder cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Monitor and create reports on key performance indicators.
- Coordinate event sponsorship benefits and provide prep and onsite support for contacts.
- Collaborate in preparing and submitting proposals and reports for foundation grants.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Proven digital and social media content expertise, platforms, and best practices.
- Demonstrated graphic design skills in Canva and ability to align with organizational branding. Video editing skills are a plus.
- Excellent written communication and the ability to write in a clear and compelling style.
- Understanding of CRM systems and donor data management.
- Ability to increase productivity and continuously improve methods and approaches.
- Ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative team environment.
- Driven to provide excellent customer service.
- Self-motivated, able to take initiative and see complex tasks through completion.
- Excellent work ethic, dependable, resourceful, and willing to work non-traditional hours while onsite during meetings (approximately 1-2 events per year).
- A ility to prioritize and coordinate activities to meet schedules and timelines.
- Ability to communicate courteously and professionally with business contacts and legislators, both verbally and in writing.
- Possess solid computer skills, specifically in Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Ability to interact effectively with diverse people in different contexts and foster equity and inclusion through self-awareness, cultural sensitivity, and valuing others.
- Dedication to public service with an unfailing commitment to act with civility, be nonpartisan when perform CSG duties, and be a responsible steward of member and donor funds.
EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor's degree required (or equivalent combination of education and experience). Preference is given to those with communications, marketing, political science, public administration, public policy, or nonprofit management degrees.
COMPENSATION INFORMATION
CSG believes that pay equity and pay transparency advance workplace fairness. Compensation will be equitable and based on experience. The salary range for this position, based in Sacramento, CA, is $57,000 to $67,000. This salary range is subject to change based on work location and market conditions.
