Position Summary
The Planner III/Communications Specialist III will be an integral member of our team, our clients’ operations, and the wider community. The role entails supporting planning and communications for public-sector clients, including state Departments of Transportation (DOTs), transit agencies, regional planning entities and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs), and county and local governments. Specific work activities may include: developing and implementing community engagement strategies; supporting multimodal transportation planning projects; working with project teams to create outreach materials, social media campaigns, and reports; working with elected officials, stakeholders, and residents to create transportation plans and programs; and supporting business development initiatives across various markets. In addition, the desired candidate will bring strong communications skills and have interest in leading robust community outreach and public involvement programs designed to meaningfully engage communities.

Responsibilities
- Assist with public outreach and/or communications in support of comprehensive plans, transit plans, bicycle and pedestrian plans, integrated transportation and land use plans, corridor studies, long-range plans, NEPA documentation preparation, and/or alternatives analysis.
- Begin to take on management responsibility for project tasks, including oversight of technical tasks and business aspects, including scope and price development, contract negotiations, cost control, technical staff coordination and budget tracking and adherence.
- Deliver quality projects in accordance with accepted schedule and budget.
- Gain experience in development of project specific goals, budgets, scopes of work, and the creation of technical reports.
- Work with members of other McCormick Taylor disciplines to ensure the timely completion of project deliverables and technical reports.
- Develop skills and show initiative to represent McCormick Taylor in communications and at conferences
- Deliver quality projects within accordance with accepted schedule and budget.
- Support marketing activities and proposal writing.
- Conduct client meetings.
- Demonstrate excellent communication skills.
- Able to manage small project teams of junior/midlevel staff and represent as Project Discipline Lead on behalf of client.
- Possess well-established client relationships and continue to identify and recruit new ones, leading to procurement of work.
- Develop project management and budgeting skills.
- Ensure that all communications products receive the appropriate level of QC/QA review prior to review by project manager.
Qualifications
- Degree: BA/BS Required, MA/MS Appreciated
- AICP appreciated
- Proficient in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Working knowledge of Canva; Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator; and/or ArcGI
- Fluency in another language is a plus
