SUMMARY
Responsible for accepting, processing and servicing consumer loans. Additionally, acts as a liaison between customers and other areas of the bank to provide loan support to borrowing customers. Cross-sells deposit, mortgage and commercial products. Provides back support to Banking Center Customer Service Associates for deposit related activities. This position also represents the bank in the community through attendance and participation in community events.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Educates prospective clients about the bank's underwriting guidelines and all applicable government regulations
- Explains complex approvals or denials to the prospective loan clients
- Studies new regulations that effect the bank's lending policies and works with the bank's management to ensure compliance with the regulations
- Make small business loans, assuming that abilities to do so are within Loan Officer's qualifications
- Works with prospective loan clients to obtain lending business for the bank
- Cross-sells non-loan related products and services
- Represents the bank at community functions to enhance its image and develop new lending business
- Screens consumer and small business loan requests based on the bank's policies and the types of loans actually offered by the bank
- Interviews prospective loan clients to develop information concerning their loan needs, earnings, and financial condition
- Obtains information (e.g., credit reports, background checks) needed regarding prospective loan clients
- Assist customers with completion of consumer loan applications and lending needs
- Processes consumer loan applications within Bank's credit decision system
- Analyzes current financial position of consumer customers to determine the degree of risk involved in extending credit or lending money. Confirms recommended approval, within lending authority, declines or forwards the loan request to higher levels for decision.
- Establishes the terms and conditions of an approved loan and reviews them with the customer.
- Prepares and/or reviews all consumer loan documents for completeness and accuracy
- Closes consumer loans in accordance with bank policy
- Keeps informed of current trends in consumer credit.
- Assures that appropriate records are maintained and required reports are prepared.
- Maintains customer account information on computer system.
- Follows current loans to ensure compliance with terms and coordinates with collections.
- Participates in new business development activities
- Identifies cross-selling opportunities and cross-sells services to customers; Acts as liaison between customers and various departments
- Answers questions about products and services and resolves problems that are within their authority to resolve. Refers problems that are beyond their authority to their supervisor, along with their recommendations.
- Follows appropriate guidelines for grading loans
- Manages technical exceptions
- Monitors loan proceeds
- Obtains inspections of collateral associate with loan
- Perform duties as defined in the Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Program
- Performs other duties as assigned by management.
REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor's degree in business or finance or equivalent experience in a financial setting
- Two to five years experience in a bank or lending setting
- Presents a professional image in dealing with customers, interdepartmental and external representatives
- Strong attention to detail, good judgment and decision-making skills
- Ability to exercise personal and professional responsibility and work under minimum supervision
- Strong planning and organizational skills
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills; demonstrated ability to communicate complex facts to a variety of people
- Strong customer service skills; demonstrated ability to positively persuade customers and identify and meet their financial banking needs
- Adaptive to change
- Computer Skills: Microsoft Word and Excel, Internet Explorer, Web-Based Applications
- Team Player - Build and maintains productive relationships with people throughout the organization
- General knowledge of Bank Secrecy Act/Anti-Money Laundering Program preferred
