About the Job
The Banking Officer (BO) is primarily responsible to source and deliver credit (term loans including multifamily and lines of credit) and non-credit (depository, treasury, merchant services) to individuals and businesses with borrowing needs under $1 million. The attributes of a successful BO includes their understanding of all products and services offered by the bank that serve this client segment and collaborative working relationship with Retail Branch Managers to support prospective small business clients. The BO should actively engage with branch employees, create and follow a disciplined marketing effort that includes, but is not limited to; involvement in community organizations, persistent direct calling on prospective businesses and developing/maintaining a robust network. KEY FUNCTIONS:
- Primarily an outbound sales position that is designed to drive business deposits, merchant processing, small business loans into the branches and loan referrals to Commercial Bankers.
- Seeks to develop new business by contacting prospects and clients to sell and cross market bank opportunities.
- Participates in community organizations affairs to increase the Bank's visibility and to enhance new business opportunities.
- Interview loan applicants, collect and analyze financials and related data in order to determine the general credit worthiness of the prospect and the merits of the specific loan request. Obtain information by direct inspection of the applicant's business and or collateral, review of interim financial reports, personal interviews, etc.
- Collaborate with branch managers with emphasis on increasing business product knowledge and analyzing business financials.
- Serve as a contact for non-borrowing accounts and loan customers for matters relating to other bank services.
- Adherence to bank policies and procedures designed to comply with Federal regulations, including but not limited to the Bank Secrecy Act, USA Patriot Act and OFAC regulations.
- Complete other duties as assigned.
- Business banking experience preferred.
- Two to three years of experience in banking sales and service, two years experience in outside business to business sales.
- Must be self-motivated and production-oriented.
- The ideal candidate will possess effective business development/client acquisition skills.
- Ability/desire to coach and mentor other managers with emphasis on sales and credit.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
- Applicant must also be able to interact with the public, in person and by telephone, in a personable, professional manner, and handle pressure in a fast-paced, changing work environment.
- Individual must be a self starter, experienced with working in a team and individual sales environment, and have a strong track record in achieving sales results.
- Computer proficiency with basic Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, and Outlook) is required.
