Program Description: Pushing Progress Philly (P3), a City of Philadelphia community violence intervention (CVI) program, serves Philadelphians who are at least 18 years old, at elevated risk of gun violence, and may be resistant to typical interventions. Program components include street outreach, case management, transitional jobs, coaching and behavioral health curriculum. The P3 goals are to reduce disparities between neighborhoods, particularly economic well-being and community safety disparities, increase opportunities for Black men to participate in the workforce and to have increased economic security, and improve neighborhood safety, with a reduction in gun violence, fewer homicides, and safer streets. P3 operates in neighborhoods such as Germantown, Allegheny West, Nicetown-Tioga, Cobbs Creek, Kingsessing, Elmwood Park, Frankford, and Juniata. This Community Engagement and Communications Manager role operates within EDSI’s function as the Coordinating Agency and Administrative Backbone for P3.
Scope of Position
Pushing Progress Philly seeks an experienced and enthusiastic Community Engagement and Communications Manager to act as an ambassador and representative to the community and media outreach. The Manager will engage with city-wide stakeholders across P3 programming, facilitate public communications, and ensure trauma-informed practices in all interactions. This role is instrumental in building and maintaining positive relationships with the community, stakeholders, and the public.
Responsibilities:
Essential Functions
- Develop and implement communication strategies to increase P3’s visibility and impact within the community.
- Serve as the focal representative to the public and media, building and maintaining positive relationships with community members, organizations, and stakeholders to support P3 goals.
- Lead the community engagement and communications team, setting objectives, providing mentorship, and fostering collaboration.
- Cultivate and maintain connections with community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders in violence prevention.
- Support the development of outreach materials and communication campaigns to educate the public about CVI programming and promote positive engagement.
- Foster connections with existing stakeholders within the CVI and violence prevention communities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Public Health, or a related field; Or minimum of 3-5 years of relevant experience in community outreach or violence prevention
- Preference will be given to candidates with prior P3 programmatic experience and/or candidates with deep existing relationships across CVI programming and the Germantown neighborhood
- Demonstrated experience in team leadership and supervision
- Strong understanding of trauma-informed care principles and practices
- Excellent communication, public speaking, and interpersonal skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work in a fast-paced environment
