Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) at Princeton University advances understanding of the Earth as a complex system influenced by human activities, and informs solutions to local and global challenges by conducting groundbreaking research across disciplines and by preparing future leaders in diverse fields to impact a world increasingly shaped by climate change.
The Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center (IGWMC) is housed within CEE at Princeton and is a hub for national-scale hydrologic research, and facilitates engagement between more than 5,000 professionals, academic researchers, government research laboratories and agencies who use numerical models to simulate the hydrologic cycle for a wide range of applications. The IGMWC puts on the long-running, MODFLOW and More conference series every other year in Princeton that brings together around 200 individuals and represents one of the largest applied hydrologic modeling conferences in the world. The IGWMC also facilitates numerous short courses designed to help transfer knowledge between academics, researchers and practitioners. The IGWMC also has a vibrant education and outreach program and has developed a suite of modules designed to help the public better understand our challenges around water.
The Maxwell group within the CEE department at Princeton has an immediate opening for an administrative position to support recent projects funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF). This position will support building a modeling community to better evaluate performance at the national scale and developing a digital outreach around hydrologic education.
This is a full time, year to year renewable contingent upon funing and job performance.
Responsibilities:
Community Organization
This position will liaise between staff at Princeton University, the University of Arizona and the Consortium of Universities for the Advancement of Hydrologic Science, Inc (CUAHSI) for a new NSF grant to support community engagement. This position will coordinate the Advisory Board activities and User Community Workshops, in addition to supporting organizational tasks for the project.
Coordination:
Facilitate communication and collaboration between Princeton University, the University of Arizona, and CUAHSI.
Serve as the primary point of contact for all stakeholders involved in the NSF grant project.
Organize regular meetings between teams at UA, Princeton and CUAHSI.
Assist with the preparation and management of project documentation
Maintain and organize project resources, including databases, contact lists, and informational materials. Ensure resources are up-to-date and accessible to project team members.
Advisory Board:
Coordinate the activities and meetings of the Advisory Board, including scheduling, assist PIs in agenda preparation, and follow-up on action items.
Prepare and distribute meeting minutes and reports to Advisory Board members.
Assist PI’s in managing Advisory Board membership and communication.
User Community Workshops:
Plan, organize, and manage User Community Workshops, including logistics, and participant coordination.
Work with PIs and CUAHSI staff to develop workshop materials and ensure they align with project goals and community needs.
Gather feedback to inform future events and project activities.
Community Engagement and Outreach:
Work with Outreach Specialist to develop and implement strategies for effective community engagement related to the NSF grant.
Create and distribute promotional materials to raise awareness and encourage participation in project activities.
Build and maintain relationships with community stakeholders and users to support project goals.
Collect and analyze data related to community engagement and workshop effectiveness.
Coordinate with research teams at Princeton, University of Arizona and CUAHSI to integrate community feedback into research activities.
Digital Content
This position will assist group and center members (PI, education and outreach specialist, and students) in developing online educational content in addition to managing social media accounts for the Maxwell group and Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center.
Online Educational Content Development:
Content Creation: Develop and produce high-quality educational materials, including articles, videos, infographics, and interactive modules relevant to the Maxwell Group and Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center.
Content Strategy: Collaborate with PI, staff and students to identify key topics and create a content calendar that aligns with educational goals and project timelines.
Platform Integration: Adapt educational content for various online platforms, including websites, learning management systems, and digital libraries.
Social Media Management:
Account Management: Oversee and update social media accounts for the Maxwell Group and Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center, including platforms like Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, and Instagram.
Content Scheduling: Develop and schedule regular posts that promote educational content, events and news related to the Maxwell Group and Integrated GroundWater Modeling Center.
Engagement: Monitor social media interactions, respond to comments and messages, and engage with followers to build and maintain an active online community.
Analytics and Reporting: Track and analyze social media metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of campaigns and content, and provide regular reports on performance and engagement.
Digital Campaigns and Promotions:
Campaign Planning: Plan and execute digital outreach campaigns to promote educational content, events, and initiatives.
Collaboration: Work with other teams (internal to Princeton or externally with other collaborators) or partners to coordinate cross-promotion and joint digital campaigns.
Collaborative Projects:
Team Collaboration: Work closely with educational content developers, researchers, and other team members to align digital outreach efforts with overall project goals.
Partnerships: Collaborate with external organizations to enhance outreach and expand reach.
Training: Train team members on best practices for using digital tools and platforms effectively.
Event Promotion:
Event Support: Collaborate with IGWMC Admin and center staff to promote IGWMC-sponsored events through digital channels, including social media.
Event Content: Develop promotional content for events (e.g. seminars, short courses and presentations), including event pages, announcements, and follow-up posts.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent 1 + years of essential work experience. Prefer BS in environmental science or related field
• Excellent organizational skills, with attention to details, accuracy and follow-ups in meeting deadlines
• Superb interpersonal and communication skills dealing with a wide range of constituents
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, G-Suite, Slack, and most social media platforms (Instagram, LinkedIn, TikTok)
• Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
• Demonstrate the highest level of professionalism
• Discretion in handling confidential information
• High level of problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task
• Excellent time-management skills
• A great team player

• Experience in assisting with outreach events
