JOB SUMMARY
The Community Paramedicine Coordinator will work with Community Medical Providers, and other healthcare agencies to establish, implement, and oversee the Community EMS Program for Cody Regional Health. This position also carries the responsibilities of working as a paramedic for CRH EMS.
The Paramedic delivers patient care within the scope of his/her practice in the Emergency Medical Services and assists as needed in the facility. Paramedic is a member of the Emergency Medical Services team and must work with other healthcare providers to deliver care to medically ill and traumatized patients of various criticalities. Emergency Medical Services Paramedic serves in the leadership role of EMT’s during an Emergency Medical Services call and on-duty. They provide or assist in patient assessments, treatment and transportation. Must participate in the operation of the department, which includes but is not limited to staffing, daily equipment inspections, yearly education day, mandatory training and fifty percent of the department monthly training to maintain clinical privilege.
The staff member must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served in his or her assigned department. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his or her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Currently licensed as a Wyoming EMT-Paramedic, National Registry – Paramedic, Healthcare. Have current or have the ability to obtain certification as a Certified Community Paramedic (CP-C). Required to be a graduate of or is currently enrolled in a Community Paramedicine educational program accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (CoAEMSP). Must have Community Paramedicine Certification within 18 months of employment in the position.
EXPERIENCE
1-2 years of Hospital based EMS experience preferred
SKILLS
Must have excellent leadership skills. Well-developed written and oral communication skills and interpersonal skills are necessary. Good driving skills are essential. Must have the ability to quickly and calmly react to life threatening situations. Ability to communicate with a variety of people of different cultural backgrounds and educational levels. Ability to assess and treat patients to the US DOT and Wyoming Office of EMS, EMT- Paramedic level.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS
Wyoming EMT-Paramedic, National Registry – Paramedic; Healthcare BLS Provider; AHA ACLS Provider;
AHA PALS or EMSC Advanced Provider; PHTLS Advanced Provider; Current clean Wyoming Driver’s License; Community Paramedicine Certification within 18 months of employment in the position.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Work with local medical providers, local healthcare agencies, and Wyoming Department of Public Health to establish a Community EMS Program for Cody Regional Health.
- Will be responsible for oversight of the Community EMS Program and will report to EMS Medical Director and EMS Director.
- Develop policy and procedures for the Community EMS Program in conjunction with the EMS Director and EMS Medical Director
- Work with medical staff, Home Health agencies, ACO Coordinators, and Nurse Navigators to coordinate Community EMS services within the community
- Collect performance improvement data to evaluate the quality of the program.
- Is knowledgeable of and works within all pertinent, established CRH and CRH Emergency Medical Services Policies, Procedures and Protocols.
- Provide leadership and direction for the Emergency Medical Services crew on duty.
- Provide problem solving for situations that require immediate solutions that effect the department’s operation, which may include but is not limited to, staffing on an emergency basis.
- Responsible for scheduling and staffing necessary for daily operations of the Emergency Medical Services department.
- Act at all times in a professional manner and shall be able to handle conflict situations with good judgment.
- Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Document assessments and care of patients on the Emergency Medical Services medical record. This includes all associated reports and run logs.
- Responsible for the daily operation, inspection, and restocking of the ambulance and equipment.
- Respond in a timely manner to emergencies when on duty or on call.
- Treat patients, public, other healthcare providers and public safety personnel with respect and dignity.
- Attend and participate in at least fifty percent of the department’s monthly training on an annual basis.
- Maintain competency on all equipment within scope of practice
- Maintain a professional appearance of the approved uniform and dress code in accordance to the CRH EMS Uniform Policy.
- Work in conjunction with CRH Medical practice providers to build the telehealth program utilizing Global Med technology.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS
- Ability to safely operate an ambulance in non-emergency and emergency driving conditions.
- Assist in the Emergency Department under the direction and supervision of ED physician. While assisting in the ED in the capacity of Paramedic, all medications which may be administered under the Paramedic Scope of Practice shall be done so only with the voice or written order of the ED physician on duty.
- Enhance growth by obtaining ITLS Instructor, ACLS Instructor, PALS Instructor and BLS Instructor Certification.
- Respond as a First Responder in out of town service areas if near the emergency.
- Assist students and observers with EMS operations.
- Must have a working knowledge of the geographic area, street systems, and demographics of CRH Emergency Medical Services coverage area.
- Assist in community service events.
- Works on special projects as assigned by the EMS Department Director.
- Perform other duties as assigned or requested.
- Respects the dignity, welfare, basic rights of all patients and employees.
- Maintain insurability for hospital motor vehicle coverage.
- Assist in security operations of CRH and its facilities.
