About the Job
Community support specialists provide individualized skill development training to help the client enhance problem-solving abilities, contribute to home life, and/or enhance community engagement. The 1:1 support provided by the CSS is intended to encourage a client to take positive steps toward independent living. This is a flexible part-time job In the afternoon, evenings, and maybe weekends.
Responsibilities
CSS services may include assistance with:
- Accessing the community, medical appointments, and other resources
- Creating schedules and routines
- Developing and/or modifying compensatory strategies (i.e. ways to use your strengths to compensate for a decrease in functioning in a particular area)
Common focus areas include:
- Budgeting & Bill Paying
- Health & Wellness
- Home Organization
- Meal Preparation
- Vocational/Volunteer Exploration
- Other Home and/or Community-based Activities
- Communication & Socialization
Requirements
- Experience providing support to clients living with injuries that significantly impact independence, such as a moderate to severe brain injury, spinal cord injury, or neurological condition.
- Experience working in a team effort, bringing together the clients, caregiver, family, treatment team, and community support professionals to assist in establishing goals and developing a personalized plan for your client.
