Job DescriptionBring Your Strengths to Wellmark as a Compliance Manager – Regulatory Affairs!
As a Compliance Manager on our Regulatory Compliance Management Team, you will develop and build collaborative partnerships with internal teams and serve as a resource for a broad array of regulatory requirements and compliance matters at Wellmark. You will analyze, interpret, present, and communicate new and revised laws and provide regulatory guidance that affects the organization. You will work closely with each business areas’ Compliance liaison to disseminate new requirements and provide guidance, accordingly. This will require you to conduct analyses and compose summaries that cover the inclusion of legislative interpretations to regulatory documentation, presentations, phone calls, etc. Lastly, you will coordinate and manage intermediate to complex compliance issues, including issue identification and coordination of corrective action plans.

QualificationsRequired:
- Bachelor's Degree in related field or direct and applicable work experience
- Minimum 4 years experience in the healthcare industry
- Minimum 2 years of experience in a compliance role reading, interpreting, understanding, and communicating regulations
- Ability to comprehend complex federal regulations and articulate to internal stakeholders
- Attention to detail, critical thinking and problem solving skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to understand and articulate complex information to a variety of stakeholders, both internally and externally
- Ability to consult with stakeholders on subject matter expertise and influence decisions appropriately
- Ability to assist a group or individual to accomplish specific goals; manages change by providing the needed structure and environment for interactions to be effective
- Strong presentation skills, with the ability to disseminate information clearly and effectively
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to develop strong relationships of collaboration and trust
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office with the technical aptitude to learn new systems quickly
- Travel required up to 5%
Additional Information
a. Coordinate and facilitate cross-functional meetings with stakeholders across the organization on various regulatory compliance topics. Accountable for ensuring the appropriate follow-ups have occurred and company policies and procedures are updated. Compiles and maintain compliance documentation in appropriate files, sites, and systems to support compliance work issues identified, and corrective action plans.
b. Participate in and support other components of the organization’s compliance program; such as Privacy, Data Security, Code of Business Conduct and Ethics, Fraud Waste & Abuse, etc. Participate in relevant committees, work groups and projects; make presentations, prepare reports, data or other materials for committee presentation.
c. Create and maintain compliance program policies that apply across the organization or specific divisions/business units. Write and disseminate compliance communications to all levels of the organization to ensure support, awareness and effectiveness of the compliance program.
d. Maintain and continually improves understanding of Wellmark’s business and business environment including compliance with laws and regulations, new products and services offered by Wellmark, organization structure, corporate policies, and Wellmark’s strategic direction current understanding of emerging trends and compliance risk associated with changes. Provide guidance to business area on issues and projects as needed.
e. Regulatory - serve as a resource for a broad array of regulatory requirements that affect multiple business areas by communicating new and revised laws and regulatory guidance that affect the organization and collaborate with legal staff to interpret and summarize the requirements.
f. Monitor external regulatory environment to identify items impacting Wellmark. Identify, evaluate, and provide initial impact assessments; including conducting analysis, summaries to regulatory documentation, presentations, phone calls, etc.
g. Identify areas and individuals across the organization that are impacted by regulatory requirements. Disseminate the requirements by engaging with the business areas Compliance Liaison. Provide guidance and direction to the business Compliance Liaison and leadership on a frequent basis. Engage and monitor implementation efforts within business and programs/projects, ensuring compliance within the assigned business area(s) and validation of procedures are in place to maintain on-going compliance.
h. Represent Wellmark on external regulatory calls. Compile and distribute content of regulatory calls to impacted business areas; including training when necessary. Develop and distribute weekly regulatory emails to the Regulatory Compliance Liaison group.
i. Monitor business unit compliance performance. Provide oversight to corporate-wide regulatory task matrix and validate business unit self-audits. Proactively test policies and procedures against regulatory requirements. Summarize and provide feedback on monitoring results, identify areas for improvement and communicate back to the business stakeholders and Chief Compliance Officer, and escalate any compliance issues as necessary.
j. Compliance - triage reported compliance concerns and questions from business areas by understanding the underlying intent of the questions and perform necessary research and analysis to provide accurate responses and recommendations. Exercise appropriate judgment regarding issue identification and escalation.
k. Initiate investigation of potential compliance issues in accordance with department procedures ensuring appropriate business areas and leadership have an awareness of issue. Lead initial discussions to clearly identify concern; understand potential scope, harm, impact, and complexities; identify root cause; and make determination whether a compliance issue is present in accordance with department procedures.
l. Manage intermediate-to-complex compliance issues. Independently identify, elevate, and guide the development of corrective action ensuring corrective action plan includes short-term plan to mitigate risks, considers appropriate historical review, and addresses root cause. Utilize compliance experience to identify gaps, potential areas of risk, and additional impacts of issue.
m. Monitor business areas efforts to implement corrective action plans. Validate compliance issues are fully resolved in accordance with departmental process and procedures; exercise appropriate judgement regarding issue escalation.
n. Validate long-term effectiveness of remedial measures by providing oversight of 6-month monitoring plans and support of 1-year internal audits.
