Under direction of the Director, Compliance and Privacy, design, develop, implement, and drive operational effectiveness and efficiency of Emory Healthcares Compliance and Privacy Program. Manage and execute compliance and privacy initiatives across the entire health system, to include but not limited to conflict of interest (COI) program, documentation standards, compliance reporting, compliance trends analysis, policies, and procedure management, and system management, expansions, and integrations. Responsible for assuring compliance and privacy strategies are in place for business operations and procedures to comply with our code of conduct, legal regulations, and internal policies. Partner with senior leaders and health system key stakeholders to document, report, and improve organizational compliance with federal and state healthcare laws , as well as privacy regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
+ Leads compliance investigations and audits on alleged violations of rules, federal/state regulations, Code of Conduct, and policies. + Plan, direct, evaluate, coordinate, and monitor activities and operations related to EHC regulatory compliance efforts pertaining to health care services including management of staff and assigned projects. + Responds to request for guidance from operating units, departments, and staff on regulatory matters. + Independently provides analysis of compliance-related matters and opportunities based on regulatory research, and by conducting periodic reviews of applicable healthcare regulations and rules to Director, Compliance and Privacy. + Conducts regular, on-going reviews of state and federal statutes/regulations relevant to healthcare compliance and communicates updates to the EHC Compliance Office. + Review and update compliance policies/procedures in Policy Manager. + Recommend, draft, and develop policies/procedures to support compliance with relevant state, federal, and/or industry standards and requirements as needed. + Coordinates the Emory Trust Line (Hotline) and ensures that concerns have been addressed through effective follow up in accordance with policies and procedures. + Support, manage, and run reports in the compliance matters tracking tool (as well as any other matters tracking database that may be used). + Support, upload, and run exclusion checks within the Compliance Line Sanction Check screening service. + Assist with the draft and review of data use agreements. + Draft and revise privacy incident letters and reports and support privacy investigations. + Manage the EHC Master Privacy Incident Log and the EHC Office of Compliance intranet webpage. + Provide guidance and advice on regulations to operations teams as needed. + Research and respond to questions regarding regulatory compliance from staff. + Assist in the implementation of audit processes to ensure compliance with federal and state statutes/regulations and program guidance. + Manage the EHC Department of Compliance e-mail address. + Respond to external requests for information, such as those from the OIG. + Assist with and support compliance reviews (e.g., perform risk assessments, identify deficiencies, and help formulate corrective action).
Education and experience requirements:
+ Bachelors degree in Law, Health Care Administration, or related field is required. Advanced degree preferred. + Minimum of 5 years of experience in healthcare compliance and privacy roles. + Comprehensive knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations, and standards related to compliance and privacy. + Certified in Healthcare Compliance (CHC) or Certified in Healthcare Privacy Compliance (CHPC) is required. + Excellent communication, leadership, and project management skills. + High level of integrity and professional accountability.
Knowledge, skill, and ability requirements:
+ Shows strong leadership qualities and the ability to interact with other department leaders. + Extensive knowledge of healthcare laws, regulations, and standards related to compliance and privacy. + Understanding of the healthcare industry, particularly in an academic medical setting. + Knowledge of HIPAA and other relevant privacy laws and regulations. + Strong communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex compliance and privacy information to various stakeholders.
