Job Summary:

The Program Specialist will utilize leadership, advocacy, and collaboration to promote club member success, provide preventive services, and respond to identified members needs by implementing a comprehensive Healthy Lifestyles program for members and their families and monitoring the food service operations including Child and Adult Care Food Program/Summer Food Service Program. Other responsibilities include maintaining safety of members, public and staff, maintaining a high profile in the community, and soliciting sponsors for programs. May supervise work of others and may serve as a lead worker providing direction to others.

Essential Job Functions:

1. Plan, implement, and coordinate programs and activities consistent with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Edinburg RGV mission, core beliefs and vision statement.
2. Check on and oversee CACFP/SFSP site operations.
3. Ensure the program operates in accordance with all TDA and USDA requirements.
4. Visit all sites within the first week of food service operations.
5. Review food service operations of all sites within the first four weeks operation.
6. Suggest corrective actions for problems encountered.
7. Conduct on-site training as necessary.
8. Visit sites on a regular basis and observe meal service operation.
9. Market, promote and maintain a high profile in the community through publicity and quality programming
10. Solicit sponsors for programs and special events.
11. Maintain safety for public and staff.
12. Work with schools to promote programs.
13. Attends staff meetings, in-services, training workshops.
14. Administrative duties: cash reports, monthly reports, outcome measures, rosters, attendance reports, lesson plans, pre and post testing, program evaluation, etc.
15. Develop and maintain a written plan for effective delivery of assigned program.
16. Performs related work and reports as assigned.

Conditions of Employment:

1. Applicant will be subject to a complete background investigation. Incomplete, inaccurate and/or failure to report information will cause the applicant rejection from consideration.
2. Applicant must take and pass a pre-employment drug test administered by the City of Edinburg at the City's expense.
3. Must have a current valid class "C" driver's license from the Texas Department of Public Safety with a satisfactory driving record.
4. Maintain and/or be able to obtain CPR/First Aide Certification and/or Food Handlers Certification.
5. Must complete Leadership University Youth Development Level.

Required Education:

High School Diploma, GED or equivalency

Required Work Experience:

One (1) year of experience in youth development and/or related field

Experience Preference:

Two (2) years' experience in youth development

Required Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

1. Requires working knowledge of program development, operation and procedures.
2. Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
3. Requires knowledge of Boys & Girls Club programs and must have flexible hours to be able to work on weekends and afternoons as assigned.
4. Other specialized job requirements include being able to understand and follow directions; both written and oral,
5. Must be in good physical condition, sensitive to the youth/teens and have good public relations ability,
6. Knowledge of athletic rules/regulations, and bookkeeping and management skills.
7. Prefer bilingual English/Spanish.

Individual works indoors in a well-lighted, air-conditioned building as well as outdoors to implement and oversee programs. The job has minimum hazards associated with lifting equipment. Moderated hazards associated in transporting and supervising at risk youth and the physical demands are moderate.
