Compost Operations Technician
Temple-Belton Wastewater Plant
SUMMARY OF POSITION:The purpose of this position is to complete the final step in the treatment process, which is to turn bio solids into compost for resale to the public. This is accomplished by operating and performing preventive maintenance on heavy equipment associated with composting operations. Responsibilities include routine equipment inspections; checking and adding fuel; cleaning filters; changing oil; replacing or repairing parts as necessary; lubricating equipment per manufactures specifications; testing and documenting compost temperatures to determine process status; grinding brush, turning windrows as needed; and adding water into process rows necessary to achieve regulatory compliance. Other duties include miscellaneous grounds maintenance; cross training in all phases of water and wastewater operations and maintenance; and any other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Ability to operate and maintain heavy equipment associated with composting operations. Ability to read papers, periodicals, journals, manuals, dictionaries, thesauruses, and encyclopedias. Ability to deal with system of real numbers; practical application of fractions, percentages, ratios/proportions and measurement. Ability to write reports, prepare business letters, expositions, and summaries with proper format, punctuation, spelling, and grammar, using all parts of speech.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & ACCEPTABLE EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING: Work requires knowledge of a specific vocational, administrative or technical nature which may be obtained with six months to 1 year of advanced study or training past the high school equivalency. Junior college, vocational, business, technical or correspondence schools are likely sources. Position requires at least four years experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
WORK SCHEDULE: Schedule includes a 6 week rotation with some Saturdays required. Work requires some rotating 24-hour on-call duty for emergency calls.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:Valid Texas Driver's License and a Good Driving Record are required. Class B or C Wastewater Certification preferred.
STARTING SALARY RANGE: $16.78 to $21.39 per hour. This is a nonexempt position.
