HJF is seeking a Computational Research Scientist I, Bone/ Musculoskeletal Biomechanics (Hybrid) with finite element analysis (FEA) experience, to perform interdisciplinary research, combining physical, computational, and life-science research to improve the efficiency and efficacy in the development of militarily relevant medical products for Force Health Protection. The incumbent mainly works performing independent research in a focused problem area.
This position will be in support of the Biotechnology High-Performance Computing Software Applications Institute (BHSAI), located in Frederick, MD. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to BHSAI.
This position is focused on the analysis of experimental data involving musculoskeletal biomechanics and the development of physiological/computational models using finite element analysis (FEA).

Responsibilities:- Formulates research projects, develops innovative approaches, designs and implements experimental protocols related to computational models for musculoskeletal biomechanics and mechanobiology.
- Develops necessary new technologies and protocols with relevance to musculoskeletal biomechanics and mechanobiology.
- Work simultaneously on multiple projects, involving a diverse and interdisciplinary team of scientists across multiple laboratories.
- Continuously surveys the scientific literature to generate novel ideas and advance projects and programs. Collects, processes, and interprets experimental data and model outputs.
- Prepare research proposals, progress reports, and manuscripts for submission to scientific journals.
- Present research methods and findings at appropriate meetings and scientific conferences.
- May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Education and Experience
Doctoral Degree in Engineering, Computational Physics, Mathematics or related field.
- Minimum of 0-2 years experience gained post-doctoral degree required.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Demonstrated experience and expertise in computational biomechanics, musculoskeletal analysis and FEA modeling is required.
- Proven computational experience with solid knowledge of informatics tools and visualization/data mining package.
- Proficiency in common database/programming/scripting languages (e.g., R, Python, Perl, Java, MATLAB, C++) and their application in biomedical research.
- Experience with conducting technical analyses pertaining to human movement is desirable.
- Knowledge with developing structural fatigue models is a plus.
- Knowledge and experience with FEA tools, such as ABAQUS, Hypermesh, Mimics, and 3-matic is a plus.
- Experience and familiarity with musculoskeletal computational tools, such as AnyBody and OpenSim is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to troubleshoot technical procedures.
- Good analytical skills.
- Ability to work independently in a deadline-driven environment.
- Must have a publication track record.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a T1/NACI Investigation.
- Must live in the US the past three out of five years.
Work Environment
- This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
Compensation
- The annual salary range for this position is $73,800-$93,000. Actual salary will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
