JOB REQUIREMENTS: General Description The Construction Inspector class
series describes field work performed in a public works construction
environment. Employees assist or perform construction inspections, serve
as a member of a survey crew, and prepare appropriate documentation.
Employees may be hired at the Construction Inspector 1 level based on
education and experience in performing public works engineering
activities (including inspection, CADD, surveying, and/or design) as
described herein. Progression to a Construction Inspector 2 is normally
contingent upon budgeted vacancies, experience gained as a Field Aide
and/or Construction Inspector I (typically at least three (3) years),
and is accomplished by competition. Hours/Week: 40 Monday - Friday 7:30
A.M. - 3:30 P.M. Construction Inspector 1 (Starting pay is $62,887.24):
This is paraprofessional intermediate-level construction inspection and
documentation work, serving as the resident inspector on varied
concurrent public works projects, assisting a Construction Inspector 2
on multi-inspector or complex, large projects or as a member of a survey
crew. This work is characterized by independent initiative and judgment
in the resolution of complex construction problems such as those
encountered in high density, multi-use/commercial areas, and/or
situations requiring the integration of a large number of public works,
utilities, or disruption of services considerations. The work is
performed under the general supervision of an Engineer or other
supervisor. This position may act in a leadworker capacity. Construction
Inspector 2 (Starting pay is $66,858.74): This is responsible advanced
level paraprofessional engineering and construction administration work
serving as a project team leader and point of contact for residents on a
large number of concurrent, varied, and complex public works projects.
Work requires managing lower-level construction inspectors on individual
projects, multi-inspector/large projects, or as members of a survey
crew. This work is characterized by independent initiative and judgment
in the review, interpretation and enforcement of contract plans and
specifications, resolution of complex construction problems such as
those encountered in high density, multi-use/commercial areas, and/or
situations requiring the integration of a large number of public works,
utilities, or disruption of services considerations. The work is
performed under the general supervision of an Engineer or other
supervisor with only the most unusual or technical inspection problems
requiring supervisor involvement. Initial placement in the Construction
Inspector 1 - 2 class series is determined for each employee based on
their training and experience at time of hire. * OTHER
EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years of progressively
responsible experience in public works engineering activities, including
inspection, drafting, surveying, and/or design. OR Associate's Degree
or higher in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Design, Civil
