SCOPE – Performing Construction Inspection services on projects that include elements primarily pertaining to full depth roadway rehabilitation, relocation and installation of new utilities, permanent and temporary traffic provisions to maintain facility operations during interim phases of construction, construction of new elevated roadways decks including supporting foundations, piles/caissons and steel framing, minor electrical and mechanical infrastructure, some marine construction consisting of dredging and pier rehabilitation including fenders, supporting piles and concrete decks – all while coordinating the advancement of such activities with direct supervisor and facility staff to ensure optimal progress in a manner as to least impact ongoing facility operations.
REQUIREMENTS - Reporting to the Assistant Resident Engineer, the Construction Inspector will be required to: have full knowledge and familiarity with associated Contract Documents, ensure that construction work is performed in accordance with the contract drawings, specifications and all applicable codes and standards. Recognize and evaluate potential items of extra work in terms of their impact and alert supervisor of those discoveries – and when requested, provide justification and cost estimate; comment on, and approve quantities of work in place for payment applications in a timely fashion; ensure the completion of daily narratives, daily labor reports for T&M work and controlled inspection reports; schedule and conduct site inspections as required, attend progress meetings and upon request assist supervisor in the performance of constructability reviews for future contracts and/or extra work scope development and provide comments on drawings and specifications in a manner flagging potential issues and providing remediation options.
In addition, the Construction Inspector will be required to have:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical, Civil, Structural and/or Electrical engineering from an accredited college or university.
• Minimum of ten (5) or more years of experience inspecting progressively more difficult projects in the aeras of work listed above
• OSHA 30-hour construction safety, and fall protection, confined space and permit required confined space entry and certification in work zone safety
• Ability to stay late or come in early as needed. Some night and weekend shifts may be required
• Ability to obtain a TWIK card
• Valid Driver's license required
• Competent in Microsoft Office, Outlook, Word, and Excel
