WSP is seeking a Lead Electrical Construction Manager to join a datacenter construction project as an Owner’s Representative near South Hill, VA.
This full-time, onsite Construction Manager will be electrically focused and support the client Project Manager by verifying contractor Energy Isolation Programs meet or exceed the client’s safety policy requirements. Energy Isolation Management is a critical component of the client’s large, fast-paced mission-critical facility construction and commissioning efforts in the area. This is a dynamic role and as such, construction management responsibilities will evolve throughout the course of the project to support client needs
Your Impact
• Coordinate with the general contractor, subcontractors, designers, utilities, regulatory agencies, consultants, and other construction and building specialists focused on safe quality construction meeting the overall schedule and budget for the project.
• Develop, implement, and periodically update the project’s energy isolation assurance process to include permit approvals and verification of personnel qualifications, PPE, and training.
• Review the general contractor’s site Energy Isolation Plan and monitor compliance throughout construction and commissioning activities.
• Conduct energy isolation audits, document findings, and prepare and distribute reports to stakeholders. Collaborate with site teams to address any issues/discrepancies identified.
• Actively participate in planning meetings for High-Risk Activities (HRA) related to energy isolation.
• Review MOPs and Scripts and verify that all sources of energy are accurately identified and align with the Energy Isolation Plan.
• Liaise with client where energy isolation activities may potentially impact existing operations.
• Act in coordination with the general contractor as a subject matter expert in energy isolation incident investigations.
• Stop unsafe work practices related to energy isolation as an independent authority.
• Recognize trends and recommend process improvements.
Who You Are
Required Qualifications
• 7-10+ years of construction and commissioning experience. Minimum of 2 years of construction experience on datacenters, hospitals, or other complex, mission-critical facilities.
• Ability to work independently and effectively manage their time, while building positive working relationships with a diverse stakeholder group.
• Ability to accurately interpret line drawings and system redundancies to verify design of effective LOTO systems.
• Demonstrated experience with major regulations, industry codes, and standards affecting electrical installations, as well as standard mechanical, electrical, and plumbing materials and means of construction.
• Knowledge and experience using typical computer software (e.g., Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook) is required and experience with other construction related software is desired.
• College, trade school, or military training in an electrical-focused discipline, and/or Master license or Journeyman is desired.
• Ability to walk distances on uneven sites, climb small ladders, and safely work in an active construction environment.
• Ability to understand and discuss complex technical information effectively with both engineers and non-engineers.
• Certifications in construction, quality assurance, or commissioning are desired (e.g., PMP, CCM, CDCAP, DCEP, ICC, CxA, NICET, ASHRAE, USACE CQM, etc.).
• OSHA 30 construction safety certification is desired.
• Must pass a background check.
