Job Summary:

Performs routine testing of construction materials primarily on job sites, under the observation of more experienced technicians and professionals. Also performs inspections of a more routine and simple nature. Responsible for reporting test results in a logical and complete manner, after review by others. Responsible for equipment maintenance and cleanliness, while learning and assisting with calibrations. Begins to review and interpret plans and specifications, consulting with others as needed

Testing: Perform soil, concrete, masonry and/or asphalt testing under minimal observation of more experienced technicians and/or professionals.

Equipment: Maintain equipment in a clean and functioning manner. Maintain and calibrate equipment.

Reporting: Report testing results under minimal observation of others. Report inspection results under direct observation of others.

Plans, Specifications, and Codes: Interpret plans and specifications to identify testing frequencies and test result ranges under occasional observation of others. Identify and interpret inspection-related items under close observation of more experienced technicians and professionals.

Inspections: Perform project or building code-related inspections, based on certifications obtained, under close observation of more experienced technicians and/or professionals.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High School diploma/GED
• Vocational training, a plus
• 2+ years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
• Two (2) or more active certifications:
  • American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
  • International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
  • DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
• Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
• Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
• Proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and email

Working Conditions and Physical Demands:

You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment:

• Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
• Walking over rough and uneven terrain
• Standing up to 8-12 hours a day
• Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
• Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
• Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
• Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
