Job Summary:
Performs routine testing of construction materials primarily on job sites. Also performs inspections of higher complexity and nature. Responsible for reporting test results in a logical and complete manner, often reviewing more simple test and inspection results of junior staff. Responsible for equipment maintenance, cleanliness, and calibration of testing and inspection equipment. Responsible for review and interpretation of plans and specifications, consulting with others as needed. May coordinate other staff on large projects.
Testing: Perform soil, concrete, masonry and/or asphalt testing with little to no observation of more experienced technicians and/or professionals.
Equipment: Maintain equipment in a clean and functioning manner. Maintain and calibrate equipment.
Reporting: Reporting: Report testing results under little to no observation of others. Report inspection results under the occasional observation of others.
Plans, Specifications, and Codes: Interpret plans and specifications to identify testing frequencies and test result ranges under minimal observation of others. Identify and interpret inspection-related items under the occasional observation of more experienced technicians and professionals.
Inspections: Perform project or building code-related inspections, based on certifications obtained, under the occasional of more experienced technicians and/or professionals.
Coordination of Others: May assign testing and/or inspections to other staff on small to medium projects and perform preliminary reviews of their testing and inspection results.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School diploma/GED
- Vocational training, a plus
- 2+ years of experience in construction testing/inspections of soil, concrete, masonry, and/or asphalt materials
- Four (4) or more active certifications:
- American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
- International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
- DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
- Effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
- Effective math skills with a basic understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
- Proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and email
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
You are willing and able to perform the physical demands of this position with the use of Company-provided Personal Protective Equipment:
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
- Walking over rough and uneven terrain
- Standing up to 8-12 hours a day
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
- Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
- Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
