S&ME is looking for an eager and dedicated full-time Laboratory Technician to join our Construction Services team in Indianapolis, Indiana.
About the Role:
As a Construction Materials Laboratory Technician, you'll play a critical role in testing and analyzing construction materials such as soil, concrete, masonry, and asphalt. Working alongside experienced technicians and professionals, you'll ensure accurate and thorough reporting of test results, maintain equipment, and assist with calibrations. Your work will contribute to the success of our projects by ensuring the materials meet the required standards.
- Testing and Reporting: Conduct and document tests on various construction materials with precision and attention to detail. While you collaborate with experienced colleagues, you'll also work independently, ensuring test results are logical, complete, and ready for review.
- Equipment Maintenance: Ensure all laboratory equipment is well-maintained and properly calibrated. Your role will be vital in keeping the lab running efficiently and ensuring the accuracy of our testing processes.
- Team Coordination: You may assign tasks to other staff members and perform preliminary reviews of their work. Your oversight will help maintain consistency and quality in our testing operations.
About You:
- You have a High School diploma/GED
- You have Vocational training, a plus
- You have a minimum of 3 years of experience in a construction materials laboratory
- You have two(2) or more active certifications:
- American Concrete Institute (ACI): Field Testing Grade I; Strength Testing Technician; Laboratory Technician
- International Code Council (ICC): Special Inspector (Reinforced Concrete, Masonry, Soils)
- DOT Certifications in the fields of Aggregate, Conventional Density, Asphalt, and Concrete
- You have effective math skills with a strong understanding of weight, volume, pressure, and units of measure
- You have effective communication skills (speaking, reading, and writing) using the English language
- You can proficiently complete data entry into multiple software applications on a smart device, using Microsoft Office and email
Are You Willing and Able to:
Perform the physical demands of the position with the use of company-provide Personal Protective Equipment such as:
- Working outdoors the majority of the time in varying weather conditions
- Standing up to 8 hours a day, up to 12 hours on occasion
- Routinely lifting and carrying 40-50lbs, (field/laboratory samples and equipment)
- Maneuver field equipment safely, such as a loaded wheelbarrow, on uneven ground and around active construction sites
- Traveling out-of-town (typically overnight) for assignments as necessary
- Working outside of normal business hours when necessary
