Our aviation team provides Construction Materials Testing, Geotechnical, and Environmental services to small, medium, and large airports across the southeast. Our team is focused on growth within the aviation marketplace, and the successful candidate will have a passion for aviation and share in this entrepreneurial spirit. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to developprofessionally andwill manage aviation-relatedprojects and clients across our footprint.
The Aviation Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall execution of the project including safety, risk management, quality, schedule, technical aspects, achieving client objectives, and profitability. The senior project manager may be assigned to manage activities at the project, phase, and task or organizational level of a project's work breakdown structure. Depending upon the project, the senior project manager will serve as either a phase project manager, a client project manager, or both. The percentage of time a given senior project manager spends in each role will vary by individual. An individual may also serve as a client manager.
Responsibilities:
- Meet with client to discuss their objectives and requirements for the project. Prepare proposal for review; may get assistance from others in preparing portions of proposal.
- Generate field and laboratory cost estimates and proposals in accordance with projects plans and specifications, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements, and client-provided requests for proposals.
- Develop scope of work consistent with project objectives. Have appropriately experienced staff review the work scope, verifying that the scope is consistent with project complexity and risk. Review proposal with client.
- When appropriate, negotiate scope of work and terms and conditions of client's contract.
- Administer project budget that includes BST project setup, track project expenses against proposed budget, track project status, and communicate with client if/when change orders are needed.
- Maintain effective communication with client. Be knowledgeable of scope, schedule, and budget for all services performed on the project. Ask for client's feedback, continue to develop relationship by learning more about their needs.
- Communicate scope changes with client and obtain approval. Be attentive to out-of-scope work and delays. Communicate with client regarding interim milestone progress and/or delayed dates, if appropriate.
- Verify that invoices are prepared and submitted in accordance with client's requirements.
- Responsible for getting payment from client for our invoices. Professionally and persistently communicate with client on overdue invoices.
- Responsible for project profitability and success.
- Cross-sell to client, including both services and locations.
- Maintain and/or grow revenue with select key aviation-related clients. Set and monitor client revenue and satisfaction goals. Develop client relationships at multiple levels and geographical locations, if applicable.
- Prepare documentation of (and mentor staff in performing) field activities, observations, and testing on construction projects, and their conformance with (or deviation from) project plans and specifications.
- Daily use/review of Metafield®, and/or other field and laboratory information management systems, for recording and reporting of field observations and testing results.
- Development of relationships with peers in the local engineering and aviation communities through participation in local professional organizations such as the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), Associated General Contractors (AGC), American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC), Airport Code Council, State Aviation Associations, etc.
- Coordination of local and regional business development and marketing efforts.
- Possess a strong working knowledge of applicable ASTM, AASHTO, FAA and DOT standards and procedures, as well as IBC Special Inspections.
- Show a commitment to providing technical excellence and profitable project management.
- Possess a strong understanding of effective leadership, business metrics, safety policies/procedures, human resources policies/procedures, and risk management awareness;
- Communication with internal and external clients.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering, Construction Management, or closely related field of study
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in the aviation field, including 5+ years in a project manager role or working under the responsible charge of a project manager.
- Senior reviewer designation preferred or can obtain within 1 year.
- Professional Engineer license preferred
- Well-organized with the ability to multi-task and prioritize work.
- Candidate should have strong communication skills, including written, oral, and listening, along with good interpersonal skills as well as ability to work and interface well in a collaborative project team environment.
- Ability to interact positively and effectively with people in all levels of organizations.
- Willingness to travel out-of-town (and overnight) for client and project-related meetings or assignments.
