NV5, one of the fastest growing full-service engineering practices in the United States, is seeking a Senior Level Construction Material Testing Engineer to supervise our Construction Materials Testing and Special Inspection practice in San Diego, CA.
The successful candidate should be a registered Civil Engineer in the State of California or have the ability to obtain within 6 months. Experience with DSA Projects is preferred but not required. Success in this position requires a person who can adapt to a variety of personalities and business conditions and can work within a multidiscipline team. The person must possess skills in problem solving, critical thinking, and must be steadfast in the execution of assigned duties. The person needs to be an effective leader and collaborator with an ability to manage a fleet of soil/concrete technicians, ICC Inspectors and laboratory staff.
Responsibilities:- Engineering Manager on DSA/OSHPD projects.
- Direct, review and monitor work performed by the materials testing and inspection personnel.
- Review field and laboratory reports.
- Review plans and specifications.
- Prepare and/or review materials testing proposals.
- Project Management: Manage projects from inception through completion and have primary responsibility for managing client expectations and ensuring that delivery meets expectations. Manage projects to meet client expectations for technical excellence, budget and schedule.
- Participate in training and mentoring of staff.
- Conduct annual and interim performance reviews. Monitor and assess progress toward performance goals.
- Certifications: Assures that all accreditations and certifications of the laboratory and staff are maintained and up to date.
Education/Qualifications:
- BS in civil engineering
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience as a Registered PE
- Ability to work as part of a multi discipline team, think creatively and problem solve.
- Demonstrated experience with reviewing technical specifications and filed/laboratory reports.
- Extensive knowledge of building codes and construction industry standards. DSA, OSHPD experience is a preferred
- Experience with Caltrans, AASHTO, and ASTM test methods pertaining to construction materials including HMA, aggregate, soils, steel, masonry and concrete
- Experience reviewing concrete/asphalt mix designs
- Experience overseeing materials testing and inspections
- Thorough understanding of accreditation policies for all relevant agencies including Caltrans, DSA, AMRL, CCRL, IAS, etc.
- Proficiency in computer applications including MS Office
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Certifications/Licenses:
- Registered Civil Engineer (PE) in California
The pay range for this California position is $90,000.00- $120,000.00 per year; however, base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
