Construction Services Manager - Christensen Farms

Christensen Farms is one of the largest, family-owned pork producers in the United States, marketing approximately 3 million hogs per year. Headquartered in Sleepy Eye, Minnesota, the company operates throughout the Midwest with facilities in Minnesota, Iowa, Nebraska, Illinois and South Dakota. Christensen Farms owns four feed mills, manages 145,000 sows on 44 farms, and oversees more than 350 nurseries and grow-finish sites. The company is vertically integrated with a strong presence across the pork value chain - from farm to fork. Christensen Farms is the largest shareholder of Triumph Foods LLC, a producer-owned primary pork processing plant in St. Joseph, Missouri. In turn, Triumph Foods members own 50 percent of Daily's Premium Meats, a specialty pork processor of bacon and other premium pork products. Triumph Foods also holds a 50 percent partnership in Seaboard Triumph Foods, LLC of Sioux City, Iowa, a primary pork processing plant.

Position Overview & Responsibilities: Lead the Construction Site Supervisor team providing direction as needed for flawless execution of capital projects using established procedures and tools. Expert use of project scheduling software (MS Project or Smartsheet), scope management and control, capital estimates and cost commitment tracker to deliver projects on time completion and on budget. Manage assigned projects to maximize staff productivity and career growth. Reinforce use of project teams for thorough feedback and input from functional partners and ensure the best possible project outcome.

Major Areas of Accountability:

• Manage Construction Site Supervisors, assigning work, tracking progress including adherence to approved scope, budget, and published schedule.
• Manage team project workload for equitable distribution of work, growth opportunities, and leveraging individual's strengths.
• Leverage team knowledge, experience, and expertise to establish CF equipment and design standards.
• Lead the commission of equipment and control systems at the end of projects.
• Document scope and budgets for projects. Partner with Supply Chain for best cost of materials and equipment.
• Establish project teams for input/participation from impacted functional groups. Ensure thorough communications via monthly reports, project team meetings and impromptu discussions.
• Assist in managing contractor relationships.
• Partner with M&R manager for major repair planning and budgeting.
• Assist in the design and engineer planning for large capital projects.

General

• High level of communication with Engineering service providers, Asset Department leadership and sub-contractors
• Must be willing to work a minimum of a 5 day and 40-hour work week with possibility of additional hours/days as work responsibilities dictate
• Understanding of production operations and biosecurity protocols
• Cleaning of company vehicle equipment to meet biosecurity requirements and to represent Christensen Farms in a highly professional manner
• Support and contribute (through employee's own labor or through leadership and direction of contractors) to assigned work completion
• Assist, support, and collaborate with other CF departments as company needs dictate
• Computer proficient with MS Outlook, MS Project, Word, Smartsheet, and Excel
• Observe, always promote and enforce Christensen Farms safety policies
• Correct and report any observed safety hazards
• Complete specified paperwork on time, including work orders, time sheets, purchase orders, inventory logs, mileage reports, etc.
• Maintain professional relationships with stakeholders and subcontractors

Education, Training, and Experience Requirements:

• Two- or four-year degree in Construction-related field preferred or 5+ years industry experience with emphasis in supporting capital projects, managing large or complex capital projects preferably in an automated environment
• Experience with PLC's, VFD's, MCC's
• Capital Project Management experience from conception to finalized design, commissioning plan development and execution and final project close-out with budgets >$3 M
• Demonstrated success managing employees in a team environment. Successful in developing EE's via coaching, constructive feedback and hands on training.
• Experience with MS Project, Contracting, Bid Development Packages, troubleshooting, commissioning and start-up.
• Knowledge of building, electrical and safety codes
• Must have high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and important information in a timely manner. Position continually requires demonstrated poise, tact, and diplomacy. Some analytical ability is required to gather and summarize data for reports, find solutions to various administrative problems and prioritize work. Ensures ethical representation in all facets of Christensen Farms. Ability to apply independent judgment in major areas of accountability. Strict adherence to company confidentiality.
