Construction Superintendent - Federal Projects - Akima

This Superintendent position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and implementing a project-specific quality control program, executing its performance according to contract requirements, completing administrative documentation on time, and cultivating customer satisfaction with the client. The Superintendent will oversee subcontractors and manage project timelines to keep work on schedule and under budget.
Responsibilities
+ Studies and reviews all RFP, drawings, and specifications, etc. to gain an understanding of all definable features of work (DFOWs), to ensure the quality of production, and to identify any QC challenges throughout a project.
+ Participates in the Post Award Kick-Off, Partnering, Pre-construction, Design Development, and Coordination meetings, as directed, during the conceptual and preconstruction phase of a project.
+ Ensures that no construction begins prior to the Designer of Record (DOR) finalizing the design for each segment of work, and construction submittals are approved as required.
+ Conducts daily site observations to assist in inspecting quality conditions and ensure all materials and installation, work, and rework are in compliance with contract requirements.
+ Assists with training the PEs in the process of using the QC Database to manage deliveries of miscellaneous permanent materials.
+ Collaborates with project team to ensure delivery of client training sessions. Assists training the PE’s in producing O & M or OMSI manuals, warranties, and As-Built records.
+ Executes authority to stop any work on a project site that does not meet QC requirements.
+ Maintains responsibility for QC Reports and oversees electronic and hardcopy documentation and filing, including the Daily report, with assistance from the FA, PE, APM.
+ Assists in tracking LEED documentation and compliance according to certification requirements on a project.
+ Leads weekly QC, Commissioning, and Sub-Coordination meetings throughout the construction of a project, ensuring that work is in compliance with the contract, specifications, and plans. Maintains accurate meeting minutes from all QC related meetings and distributes reports.
+ Updates As-built drawings and submittals regularly, maintaining current information on site at all times.
+ Monitors and records the billable hours and the scope of work by consultant technicians and inspectors and audits monthly bills for financial accuracy.
+ Reviews and approves contractor billing and provides an updated copy of the Submittal Register to the PM to assist with monthly billing requirements.
+ Manages the completion of all QC steps and paperwork during the Red Zone/close-out process of a project, ensuring timely and accurate reporting.
+ Maintains constant communication with all on-site project team members and stakeholders regarding any changes in the CQC plan throughout a project.
+ Assists with training and mentoring any project team member involved with CQC support, including PEs.
+ Participates in cross-training with the Safety Officer to ensure coverage of responsibilities on a project and assists in implementing and maintaining the Safety program on-site with the rest of the project team.
+ Ensures the currency and accuracy of all CQC files and documentation for audit purposes.
Qualifications
+ Five or more years combined experience (or equivalent) in commercial construction industry as a Superintendent, QC Manager, Project Manager, or Project Engineer required.
+ Demonstrated computer literacy (Microsoft Office, Outlook, Internet, etc.) required.
+ Working knowledge of project plans, specifications, shop drawings, samples, and models to assist in quality control management.
+ Working knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedure, and equipment to the design and production of various good and services.
+ Working knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services.
+ Working knowledge of building and construction materials, methods, terminology, phases, documentation, and the tools involved in the construction, repair, or remodeling of buildings and other structures to assist in quality control management system implementation on a project site.
+ Working knowledge of administrative and management principles involved in project planning, resource allocation, leadership technique, production methods, and coordination of people and resources to assist in quality control management.
+ Working knowledge of arithmetic, geometry and their application to a project as they relate to quality control management.Working knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar to assist in understanding and interpreting technical specifications.
+ Demonstrated troubleshooting and quality analytic skills to determine the cause of operating errors, conduct test and inspections to evaluate quality or performance, and deciding what corrective action to take to fix any problems.
+ Demonstrated complex problem solving and critical thinking skills to identify, implement and/or monitor alternative solutions.
+ Demonstrated time management skills to achieve personal, team, project, and corporate objectives as related to quality control.
+ Working ability to use Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) and the internet to assist in completing various aspects of the position.
+ Ability to operate project software formats (Viewpoint, SharePoint, RMS/QCS, etc.) to assist in managing the quality control administrative duties associated with the position.
Desired Skills & Experience :
+ Level 1EM 385-1-1, CRP, First Aid, OSHA 30-hour certifications.
+ Current USACE CQM for Contractors Certificate is required and RMS/QCS training is preferred.
+ Specialty inspection training and licenses/certs highly desired.
Physical Demands:
+ The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job, dealing effectively and reasonably with stress in the workplace without lost time or undue strain.
+ While performing the duties of this position, you may be required to lift up to 50 pounds.
+ Job site work may involve extended periods of walking or standing and additional limited physical requirements, including climbing ladders, scaffolding, maneuvering around small obstacles, moving through cramped quarters, crawling, etc.
+ In this position also requires basic office work, including sitting, walking, climbing stairs, kneeling, bending, and operating office equipment that is hand operated.
+ Driving required – must have a valid driver’s license for three or more years; proof of automobile liability insurance required when driving personal vehicle.
Work Environment:
+ While working on the jobsite, individuals will be outside on an active construction site, in a trailer with job site management team, and at clients’ facilities.
+ Job walks and inspections outdoors are required.
+ Jobsite appropriate attire is necessary.
+ Flexibility to work outside normal business hours and travel to project job sites will be required. Travel to job sites includes overnight travel and the possibility of relocation will be required.
