Consumer Finance Attorney - Republic Finance

Republic Finance is seeking an experienced, business-minded attorney with expertise in consumer lending and finance to join its Legal & Compliance team. This is a key role with significant responsibilities operating within a collaborative, high-performing Legal & Compliance Department. The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of the consumer finance industry and experience working in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment.

We offer hard working Americans secured and unsecured personal installment loans – a typical loan is $5,000 - $7,000 repayable in monthly installments over three years. Job responsibilities are as follows:

• Provide expert legal advice and guidance on a variety of matters related to applicable federal and state consumer finance regulatory compliance, laws, and legal issues
• Develop and maintain subject matter expertise with respect to assigned legal topics and remain current on relevant federal and state consumer protection laws and regulations to ensure ability to provide sound legal and regulatory advice, and to participate in industry working groups
• Work closely with various departments and business teams, including online lending, marketing, centralized servicing, and centralized collections teams, to provide pragmatic, insightful advice while supporting the Company’s initiatives and maintaining the highest standards for ethical and regulatory compliance
• Develop, review, and revise policies and procedures and training materials to reflect Company strategies and initiatives
• Communicate and negotiate effectively both internally and with external parties (regulators, vendors, etc.)
• Communicate regularly with, and make formal presentations to, various business teams, senior leadership, and executive team regarding regulatory and legal aspects of Company initiatives
• Collaborate closely with outside counsel, as directed

• Law degree – licensed by, and in good standing with, at least one US state bar licensing authority
• 4-8+ years of relevant experience with the legal and regulatory aspects of consumer lending and servicing a plus
• Experience with bank partnership lending structures a plus
• Knowledge and application of state consumer protection laws and regulations related to all aspects of lending and servicing
• Knowledge and application of federal consumer protection laws and regulations, including but not limited to the ECOA, TILA, FCRA, FDCPA, TCPA, GLBA, SCRA, and UDAAP, and any state-level statutory and regulatory counterparts within Republic Finance’s footprint or potential expansion states
• Enthusiasm, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to add some of your own personality to a collaborative, high-performing Legal & Compliance Department
• Ability to work with minimal direction and exercise independent judgment, anticipate and mitigate friction points, and take the initiative to promptly resolve and learn from challenges.
• Ability to assess risks and provide thoughtful, pragmatic advice in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to grasp technical concepts and convey them in a simple, user-friendly manner
• Tech-savvy – able to use proprietary software and databases
• Ability to communicate and work effectively in-office and remotely
• This role can be based in one of our offices located in Baton Rouge, LA, Plano, TX, Charlotte, NC or, for the right candidate, we are open to this position being remote from within the United States with occasional travel to our headquarters sites.
