Summary
The Forestry Auditor is a contract position. Working independently, or in teams of up to five professionals, the Auditor travels to client offices to assess practices and systems relative to the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) and other certification standards. Assessments involve document review, stakeholder consultation, employee and contractor interviews and on-site assessment of field activities. Detailed assessment reports must be written and submitted within a timely manner. Ongoing training is provided by SCS.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Audit Coordination
- Schedule and confirm audit date with client
- Prepare clients for audit process by sending required audit paperwork according to protocols
- Book travel, hotel and transportation according to company policy, and submit expense reports
Audit Services
- Adhere to all quality and code of conduct standards
- Conduct audits using applicable checklists, forms, and tools
- Maintain positive client relationships and respond to client inquiries and concerns as appropriate
- Submit complete and accurate deliverables and audit reports within established timelines
Program Quality and Compliance
- Attend online training to maintain qualifications to conduct audits
- Maintain up to date knowledge of applicable regulations and standards
Qualifications
- Written and spoken fluency in English
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to decipher complex standards and provide clear and concise guidance to clients
- High attention to detail
- Ability to consistently meet deadlines
- Interest in environmental issues, sustainable forestry, and resource conservation
- Ability to travel throughout the US and Canada.
Education and Experience
- Minimum B.S. or B.A. in ecology, forestry, or related field
- Minimum 2 + years professional experience in an area of work relevant to forestry evaluation (e.g. post-graduate research, consultancy, forest management)
- ISO 9001 or ISO 14001 Lead Auditor status or the ability to complete a lead auditor course successfully
- Willing to work on an as-needed basis with an increased time commitment as business develops.
- Familiarity with the third-party certification process
Physical Requirements
This is an office based job 25% of the time and a field position 75% of the time. Must be able to sit 6+ hours per day. Keyboarding 6+ hours per day. Must be able to speak and listen in person and on the phone. Must be able to physically travel to audit sites both via plane or car. Travel to audit sites requires the ability to stand, walk and carry up to 5 lbs. of equipment.
