Entegris is seeking a highly motivated Controls Engineer who thrives in a fast-paced environment where safety, quality and continuous improvement are paramount.
In this exciting role, the Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing, developing, installing, and managing control systems used to monitor and control key process equipment. The candidate will also specify, design, and complete projects as well as initiate and support the operation of instrumentation for product development and production processes. The ideal candidate will exhibit the ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, continuous improvement environment focused on safety, quality, and equipment reliability.
This position will work cross-functionally with a diverse engineering team, chemists, and product marketing managers. There will be frequent communication with suppliers, contract manufacturers and members of the supply chain. This position supports processes that purify solid chemistries, liquid chemistries, and solid precursor delivery systems for the semiconductor industry.
This job opportunity is in our Burnet, TX facility, one hour outside vibrant Austin, TX.
In this role you will:- Become and automation subject-matter-expert (SME) for scale-up and release of new chemical processes to high-volume manufacturing
- Create PLC and HMI code based on end-user requirements as defined in IO sheets, sequence charts, alarms/interlock charts, P&IDs, and control panel electrical schematics
- Support New-Product-Development (NPD) scientists and engineers in use and troubleshooting of controller equipment, including sensors, transmitters, remote IO, analog scales, temperature controllers, overlimit controllers, and other microcontrollers
- Identify and execute CIP opportunities to automate processes, move from paper governance to data governance, eliminate manual steps / data collection, provide dashboards for decision making
- Supervise operators and maintenance workers in testing, tuning, and adjusting equipment to obtain optimum operating performance
- Troubleshoot NPD control panel hardware, IO, and electrical equipment, executing the necessary adjustments to bring equipment up to running status
- Make programming changes online for retrofitting or upgrading equipment
- Coordinate project timelines with NPD management
- Quote components and order parts directly with outside vendors
- Work safely and drive process improvements
- Listen actively and solve problems in a structured manner
- Manage change through cross-functional partnering in a global environment
- 2+ years’ experience in PLC/HMI control systems design and implementation
- 2+ years of experience in a hands-on automation/control environment
- 2+ years of experience programming Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), and Human/Machine Interfaces (HMI) using Allen Bradley software
- Understanding of electrical controllers (PLC/PAC), including how to read/write/edit logic using IEC 61131-3 languages (Ladder, FBD, Structured Text, SFC) with a command of program scan time, timers, interlocks, latches, control loops and conditional statements affecting electrical inputs/outputs.
- Experience with industrial communication networks (Modbus, EtherCAT, Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Serial)
- Ability to troubleshoot electrical panels and interpret electrical & pneumatic schematics
- Ability to use multimeter and other test equipment to troubleshoot PLC and automation problems including electronic troubleshooting at component level.
- Familiarity with equipment design codes including NEC & NFPA 79 & international electrical standards
- Experience selecting appropriate circuit protectors, wire and cable, sensors, safety hardware, PLC hardware, remote I/O, VFD and servo systems
- Demonstrated experience in sensor selection / integration and operation
- Capable of setting up remote I/O, Ethernet & Modbus networks as well as other electronic controls equipment
- Aptitude to read drawings, reference manuals & instruction guides
- At a minimum an intermediate understanding of industrial ethernet networking in the operational technology (OT) space, including configuration of managed switches, use of vLANs, routing protocols, fiber/copper network medium (termination, technical limitations, and proper implementation). Experience with CPwE configurations, Cisco and Allen Bradley Stratix switches strongly preferred.
- Proficiency, knowledge, or willingness to become proficient in controls / software related tools (Python, Ignition, SQL, etc.)
- Accessible by laptop computer and cell phone for occasional use during off hours
Education/Skills/Abilities:
- A post-secondary apprenticeship program, trade school diploma, or degree specializing in Programming and Engineering or equivalent experience
- Preferred platforms and standards:
- Rockwell Studio 5000 and legacy platforms (RSlogix 500)
- Rockwell FactoryTalk View, Ignition SCADA
- Ethernet/IP, Modbus, RS-232 RS-485, EtherCAT communication protocols
- Familiarity with SQL, SCADA, HMI, MES, Ignition SCADA, and Historian programming/coding from the ground up
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proven track record of analyzing data and solving problems independently
- Forward thinking, eager to learn best practices, and contribute with innovative ideas
- Displayed ability to learn quickly and driven to broaden knowledge base
- Ability to collaborate and work effectively in a variety of teams, including multi-disciplinary teams
- Experience within a global, multicultural, multi-location organization serving the semiconductor industry
- Capable of managing cross-functional projects.
