Controller - PGLS

Position Summary

As the Controller at PGLS, you will play an essential role in managing and optimizing our accounting operations, ensuring compliance with both commercial and government contracts, and driving financial processes and integrity across the organization. Reporting directly to the VP of Finance, you will be responsible for overseeing all accounting functions, including financial reporting, consolidation of financial data, and implementing robust internal controls.

In this leadership role, you will guide the accounting team, foster a culture of accountability, and ensure adherence to GAAP standards. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, exceptional leadership skills, and a meticulous approach to financial management. Government Clearance eligibility is required for this position, along with a demonstrated ability to manage complex financial operations in a government contracting environment.

Job Responsibilities

Financial Accounting and Tax Management:

• Oversee and manage all aspects of the company's accounting operations including Accounts Receivable, Accounts Payable, and all General Ledger activities, including intercompany activity, specialized accounting for acquisitions, and consolidations in a multi-company environment.
• Work across departments to help develop and implement financial policies, procedures, and internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with government regulations.
• Report on weekly and monthly cash flow activities.
• Establish and adhere to a regular monthly financial close schedule including performing or reviewing reconciliations in conjunction with the team.
• Report in a multi-company environment for consolidations, intercompany transactions, and intercompany reconciliations.
• Develop international payment transactions processes.
• Assist with maintaining compliance with Federal, State and Local tax filings for property taxes, payroll taxes, corporate registrations and similar tax filings as needed.
• Experience successfully preparing for, coordinating with outside CPA firms and completing annual GAAP financial statement reviews or audits and providing information necessary for the preparation of state and federal tax returns.

Government Contract Compliance:

• Ensure compliance with government contract requirements, including the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR) and Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS).
• Review and analyze contract terms and conditions to ensure accurate accounting, financial reporting and billing by project.
• Prepare monthly financial reports for government contracts, ensuring accuracy and adherence to contract requirements.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders and project teams to provide financial guidance and support when necessary, throughout the contract lifecycle.

Financial Reporting and Analysis:

• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports in accordance with GAAP under a regular reporting schedule.
• Conduct variance analysis to determine consistency of activity compared to prior months and provide insightful financial analysis to support decision-making and drive business performance.
• Assist the Finance team in the preparation of budgets, forecasts, and financial projections.
• Other duties as assigned.

Team Leadership and Development:

• Manage and lead the accounting team, providing guidance, support, and mentorship to all levels of the department.
• Foster a collaborative and high-performing work environment, encouraging professional growth and development.
• Conduct performance evaluations, set goals, and provide ongoing feedback to team members.

Requirements

• Government Clearance eligibility is required for this position.
• Strong technical background in current accounting standards demonstrated by a Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited program. A Master's degree in accounting (MAcc) is preferred. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification is strongly preferred.
• Minimum of 10-15 years of relevant accounting experience in a senior accounting or finance role such as a Controller in a medium sized company, preferably in a government contracts environment
• Familiarity of government contract cost accounting regulations, including DCAA Incurred Cost Submissions, FAR and DFARS. T&M, CPFF and FFP and experience with GSA contracts and processes.
• Experience with implementing and developing accounting system functionality to improve efficiency is strongly preferred.
• Strong experience and proficiency in QuickBooks Online, Microsoft Dynamics Business Central, Power BI and advanced Microsoft Excel skills including pivot tables and other large data manipulation experience. Experience with leveraging multiple APIs to efficiently process accounting transactions.
• Thorough understanding of GAAP-based accrual accounting, account reconciliations, technical accounting for relevant areas and financial reporting requirements.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
• Exhibit flexibility to deal with a very dynamic and growing accounting environment that requires applying past knowledge to solve current challenges.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
• 10+ years' experience in a leadership or managerial role is preferred.
• Must reside within a 40-mile radius of the Arlington VA
