Our client is a food and beverage wholesaler and distributor located in Bethpage, NY looking to hire a Controller.
Job Summary:
The Controller will be responsible for the overall financial management of the company. This includes managing all accounting functions, financial reporting, bank reconciliations, QuickBooks Online, 401(k) administration, insurance matters, truck leasing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The successful candidate will lead a small bookkeeping team and ensure the company's financial health and operational efficiency.

This includes managing all accounting functions, financial reporting, bank reconciliations, QuickBooks Online, 401(k) administration, insurance matters, truck leasing, accounts payable, and accounts receivable. The successful candidate will lead a small bookkeeping team and ensure the company's financial health and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting operations including billing, A/R, A/P, GL, cost accounting, inventory accounting, and revenue recognition.
- Manage the preparation of the company’s financial statements in accordance with GAAP.
- Conduct regular financial reviews and analysis to monitor performance and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
- Ensure timely and accurate bank reconciliations.
- Administer the company’s 401(k) plan, including compliance with relevant regulations and employee education.
- Manage insurance matters including property, liability, and workers' compensation policies.
- Oversee truck leasing agreements and ensure cost-effective management of the fleet.
- Develop and manage the annual budget and financial forecasts.
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies.
- Implement and maintain financial systems and controls to ensure data accuracy and integrity.
- Lead and mentor a team of 3-4 bookkeepers, providing guidance, training, and performance evaluations.
- Collaborate with other departments to support overall company goals and objectives.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field; CPA or MBA preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive finance and accounting experience, preferably in the distribution or manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency in QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
- Experience with 401(k) administration and insurance management.
- Familiarity with truck leasing and fleet management.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
